Hey incoming sms are suppose to be free world wide on any mobile network right ? My cousin took jio sim to Canada and it stopped working ? He is not gonna use for calling or sending SMS, just needs to see incoming sms.
He is on prepaid and in Canada now. No network coming and I spoke with jio they told to do 1100 recharge to enable international roaming why ? And it has to be done every month..

Yes on prepaid, you need to recharge with any IR pack the first time, that too before leaving India (not sure if the recharge in India requirement changed recently). After that you can use it as pay as you go for your future visits.

On Postpaid, you can activate IR without any recharge.

Hmm..Now what to do he is in Canada and jio people not responding.

1. So what makes sense he is gonna be living in Canada for a while? I tell him to do that 1100 recharge or convert his number to postpaid if that is even possible ?

2. Also confirming again This 1100 recharge just activates his international roaming he won't need to do recharge every month right to get free incoming sms ?

1. If he needs the number for incoming SMS, you need to do that recharge. Not sure converting to postpaid can be done remotely. I mean might need a SIM change or something.

2. Yes, it is just for activating IR. The 1101 recharge also gives Rs 1201 which can be used for IR calls, data, sms etc. You can even do the Rs 575 one day pack to activate, but I think the Rs 1101 recharge makes more sense.

And yes, you don't need to do that recharge every month. It is just to trigger the activation.

The 575 pack is valid only for a day though. With the 1101 recharge, you get Rs 1200 that can be used for data, outgoing calls sms over the next 28 days.

With that 1200 you can use 600 MB data over the next 28 days or 600 min outgoing calls.

He has already bought a Sim in Canada to make calls, will let him know and decide thanks 🙂

dyum jio is really chor.. 1st charging for just to make it mandatory to recharge for international roaming and then making it so complicated. So i told my aunt to get the 575 recharge done but since apparently the option is hidden. the option showing was of that 1100 and 1200 recharge. There is another drop down menu which says unlimited international roaming recharges and from that 575 shows. She could not find it and i also had to look for it on desktop. I did recharge in the morning and my brother number has gotten finally receiving signal now about 12 hrs later. I had to keep pinging jio though.. all in all avoid jio and stick with airtel probably if travelling abroad all service are pre actiated on prepaid sim. They are much more faster. Jio is not all clear, without this thread i would have probably assumed that jio is trying to make money and don't know what is going on.

really thank you for your help bro 🙂 @varkey , my bro was struggling for a week with this..

hello can u please let me know if sim validity plans or monthly plans also need to be recharged for if he just wants to use incoming free sms in Canada as his sim card pack validity expired i think ? ty

If he was in India, incoming SMS would continue to work even with the base plan expired. Not sure whether they kick you out sooner if roaming internationally.

Perhaps you can recharge with a plan every 2-3 months if he's gonna be there for long.
