Namaste.
I am having a 4G hotspot (unlocked). Previously it was locked for Airtel.
After unlocking I am using it with Idea SIM.
My query is -- I wish to place JIO SIM in above-mentioned generic hotspot and make vowifi call by connecting Micromax Q381 3G smartphone using MyJIO App and Jio Call App to JIO SIM inside that hotspot.
Would it be possible? or it works only with Jio-provided hotspot?
Thanks.

Jio4GVoice/JioCall app works only if you have a Jio SIM in your phone. It works only on an LTE connection and not WiFi.

Edit:

JioCall will continue to offer all the features that were available earlier. It brings VoLTE high-definition voice and video calling on your existing 2G, 3G, 4G smartphone. You can use JioCall with a JioSIM either in the phone or in a JioFi connected to your phone. You can now use your non-VoLTE 4G smart phone to make HD voice and video calls to any landline or mobile number anywhere in the world. You can also use these VoLTE features on your existing 2G/3G smartphones via JioFi.

Looks like it does works with a JioFi hotspot connection. Don't know if it'll work with internet connection from any other service provider.

@igloo thanks for your reply.

@Citrus thank you too. In your edit, you said that "Looks like it does works with a JioFi hotspot connection".
I intend to use JioFi itself (but not in the device provided by Jio. Instead in a generic 4G Hotspot). Would the jio app connect happily to such wifi or does it require Jio's hardware only?

Nope. Wifi calling thru Jiocall app works only with Jiofi hotspot on ur Jio number, or Jiofiber Wifi using ur Jiofiber number

You could try to use a friend's Jio sim and in your generic Hotspot and try if log in works on JioCall app. I'm not sure what's lacking, maybe some port forwarding or something that Jio has done on their Jiofi.

While using the Jiofi, I've noticed Jio assigns a public IPv4 address from some weird subnet to the WAN interface, which then gets NATed to a different Public IP on the internet. And by the weird subnet, I mean its a public subnet alright, but ip lookups show it belonged prior to the UK Defence forces?! I understand IPv4 gets traded around a lot, but at least after 4 years shouldn't public databases have updated by now?

Also what's up with the double NATing with two public IPs? Makes no sense to me except to log traffic, which I've heard Jio does a lot cos : "DATA IS THE NEW OIL"

@abbyck thanks for that

@JB701 yup that is possible. What do you think is the advantage of using a public ipv4 (that is unused by BGP) like its an internal private IP instead of an actual private subnet to do CGNAT? I am unsure of the real reasons or advantages.

I think they just ran out of private IPs. Not sure why they setup this way as its against standards even if it does work, they could just have seperate networks and reuse same IPs.
