Hi, I just ported to Airtel, and while normal calling, SMS, data etc seem to be working, I am unable to get VoWiFi to work. Once I put in the Airtel SIM the setting showed up for "WiFi Calling" and I have turned that on. However, neither does the VoWiFi icon show in the notification area, nor does any call work over WiFi.

Am I missing something obvious?

Things I have tried (but have not worked):
  1. Taking the SIM out, rebooting and powering off the phone, putting the SIM back (in slot 1) and turning it on again.
  2. Switching Wifi Calling off and on several times.
  3. Switching off the second SIM (Vodafone)
  4. Toggling network modes (4G/3G/2G | 3G/2G | 2G)
  5. Putting on Airplane mode and turning on WiFi. (When I try to place a call, it states that I should "Turn off Flight mode or connect to Wi-Fi to make this call" even though WiFi is connected).
  6. Used WiFi of Airtel Broadband as well as ACT Broadband (I have both).
Nothing works!

VoLTE is working?

Curiously, no. It's showing VoLTE for the second SIM (Vodafone) but not for the first. In the settings VoLTE is switched on for both SIMs.

so you have basically the same problem as mine. airtel backend decided that s10+ is not a supported phone and did not turn on volte for it.

what worked for me was to get a new sim (which you already did here though) and put it in old/Redmi phone that is on their volte list.

s10+ should be supported but for some idiotic reason, it is not listed here: Airtel VoLTE - Voice Over LTE Services Works on Airtel 4G (along with s10 lite which is what i downgraded to few days ago).

once volte starts working on a shittier phone, it should logically start working on s10+ as well.

so you might need to get a new sim...

one thing worth trying is to check if the sim shows volte on another other phone that shows volte on airtel sims? this did not help me though.

or the above might work as well. but for me when i got a new sim and put it in a redmi note 7... the sim was volte activated pretty much instantly.

It's been 18 hours or so since I ported.

Also, weird is that I went to India's leading provider of Prepaid & Postpaid Mobile Services in India - Airtel.in and entered my number, and I get the following message: "Hi there! Airtel VoLTE is currently unavailable on your number. We will reach out to you when it is rolled out for you."

What the hell? How did I have VoLTE on Vodafone (and still have it on the second SIM) and it's not working on Airtel?? And also, what does VoLTE have to do with VoWiFi?

yeah that link is useless. it probably has a database of initial activations. and does not get updated. it still show my number doesn't have volte.

vowifi would need volte to be enabled. it is needed for seamless conversation if you get out of wifi network otherwise the call would disconnect.

for me, now, vowifi does work fine on airtel even when the phone is on non-lte mode but from what we have seen here vowifi would not get enabled if your sim is not volte enabled.

i went through the same deal with airtel over a period of a week to get volte activated on my sim. only thing worked was to get a new sim and put it in a phone that is in their database. once volte activates on the sim on an old phone... it should work on your s10+.

yeah. it's kind of annoying. jio is not doing any checks at their end so if phone has volte/vowifi support, it just works. airtel is being an ass here doing manual checks. so if the phone is somehow not listed in their backend, sim does not get volte activated. so if nothing else work... get a new sim. put it on another phone preferably on their list and just wait for 2-3 hours for it to get activated.

my problem was that pixel 2 never got volte support on airtel. so my old sim was never activated for volte. otherwise it would have been a seamless downgrade to s10 lite.

my 2 cent register complaint for VoLTE rather wifi calling as Airtel staff is not much familiar with wifi calling.
Once VoLTE starts vowifi will automatically start.

yeah. it's possible that porting is treated differently. plus s10+ is like a year old model now. so it might get enabled in a day or two.

the problem is that airtel 3g has been shut down in delhi ncr so you are probably stuck on 2g for making and receiving calls and it does not really work well. so without volte, you are going to have a tough time.

For 2g i find voda better than airtel in Delhi.
But voda still has 3g network active.

Problem solved! Highlighted this issue to Airtel Presence yesterday and woke up this morning to see VoWiFi working! A quick restart later VoLTE also working! Just got a call from their social media team explaining that they "refreshed the settings" from their end, and it should now be working. Great success!

So basically you don't need to change the SIM - just need to reach out to them to "refresh" their settings.

Also tested VoWiFi briely - what a game changer! Don't have to run to the balcony to answer calls anymore!! 🙂

(Though VoWiFi doesn't seem to work on Flight Mode with WiFi on).

heh. if only they did the refresh thing with me. freaks kept telling me that my device was not supported.

vowifi does work on airplane mode on ios devices.
