how to learn about the market?

hey all,,i`m very much interested in learning about the market, how the stock market operates, how the index in calculated, and anything and everything related to the market . where do i find the info? .. how do i go about enhancing my knowledge about the market in general .. like for eg, what are equity shares, etc etc... cya

if u are seriously interested there are bse sponsored class that teach u the in and outs of
market trading.. they occur every few weeks i gather and costs ranging from 2.5 to 4k.

Its taught for professionals and is very comprehensive. look around in the papers for it

Just to add a little...question

is there any tool/ web based service to start and maintain a virtual portfolio of stocks? I have heard that it is important to maintain a virtual portfolio to learn about stock markets! So if anyone of you know please let me know.
