Excitel Broadband is now allowing some DNS servers including Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 and OpenDNS

Just curious if others can verify this. I disabled my encrypted dns (NextDNS) and configured 1.1.1.1 in windows.

i do not see it being used yet.

this could be dns cache thing so i would keep it like this for a few hours and restart my pc and check again.

would love to see if others can verify this. cheers.

i guess some dns servers are going to perform well over others especially with their peered services.

i mean if i get connected to some far off netflix server on a less popular dns server (or something i run on my own)... it would result in poor end user experience.

people who want to run a custom dns server should be running encrypted dns in any case. which bypasses their bypassing.

friend did some tests on my edgerouter x few days ago. found that on airtel cloudflare has much lower pings compared to google. this was opposite on excitel where google pings are much better than cloudflare.

i can only assume this is because excitel has peering with google while cloudflare is running on airtel infrastructure.

It would only affect the initial DNS query after that is solely dependent on the ISP's bandwidth, routing and the remote server itself.

Even BSNL's piss slow DNS servers could never hamper end-user experience that bad.

So the way these codes work is that they are airport locations. So NRT is Narita international airport. Therefore the server is somewhere near narita, japan.

i guess need to pay to get a local colocation server 😀
