Timbl Broadband Review

I recently shifted from excitel to Timbl broadband. Excitel in my area does not offer FTTH and their transit speed chokes during evening time (9 pm-12 am).

I am on a 50mbps FTTH Unlimited connection paying about Rs 700/month (inclusive of taxes). Static IP if you need is another 400/month. ONU Security was Rs. 500. Running my own router with Unifi Access Point.

It's been 6 days since I shifted has till now there has been no downtime. Initially, I had to contact the customer care to get the admin password of the ONU which was given to me within a day or two.
Another great point about Timbl is that they offer dynamic public IPs to every user. No port blocked, you can run whatever you want and with a dynamic DNS service, you basically have a static IP equivalent domain name.
Timbl uses google DNS by default.

Below are a few speedtest results to UK, US, Singapore, Ind using on speedtest. Upload struggles a bit but I won't be uploading much to US/UK. Tested on a 5Ghz wifi.

I will keep updating the thread with my findings.

not many Indians have nvidia shields or gtx 1080 or later nor can many Indians justify buying one

Is it a vague figment of your imagination??? 🤔 Or ....... Can you support your argument with any statistical report or even a blog article.

By the way, are you from Britain?

@Realme My Firestick 4k can play x265 content fine.
Some 30Gb x265 movie from my NAS did play well on firetv stick.
So you don't need very high end things to play hevc these days

Even my mid range Xiaomi can play hevc x265 even 10 bit (non HDR). Most TV/Android Box/TV Sticks have hardware decoding for hevc so you don't really need a high end gpu for that

I quote myself again:
...new hardware with hw decoding support,

People don't update PCs that fast , especially not in India

Nvidia on Indian Gamers, the GeForce GTX 1070 and 1080, and Pricing

take 35% of total users with PCs with gfx card(non -intel hds) and in that 35% not everybody has gtx 1080 or 10 series

Just curious whats the size of those files, my PC can't cough up 20+ Gb 1080p HDR/4K

not most TVs, only recent mid+ to high ends, if you fina an android box which is not nvideia shiel and can run 1080p HDR/4K, do send me the link.

tv sticks: yes certain Amazon one does.

One more thing data sample of IBF Members is certainly biased towards users who are technically adept and are keen to invest new tech if their wallet allows.

Dear Realme

The article you provided is 4 years old, published in 2016......... Do I say more???

But I get what you are trying to convey here. All I would like to say is 'If it is not broken, why fix it'

I have only tested non HDR x265 files around the size of 6-10 GB (1.5 hour movie) that too at 1080p. It works fine on most AMlogic powered devices that I have.

HDR and 4K require far more horsepower no doubt in that.

Firestick would not work properly with HDR.
I have the Firestick in my living room, though my samsung tv came with smart features I like Firestick as it is more flexible.
But I have no issues with my Nvidia shield which use in my bedroom.
@Realme Yes people here at IBF are usually try to stay in cutting edge of technology as far thier budget permits them to be.

No nothing, working great in my area. Sometimes congestion is there on the network and speeds drop a bit, but overall working good...

I have got 50 Mbps plan , but the speed doesn't go beyond 30 mbps . Talked to customer care guy , he said speed has been capped at 30 mbps during lockdown. Anybody else facing the same issue ?

Yup public dynamic IP and it is included in the monthly price which is close to 710 with taxes.

As the lockdown restrictions have eased a bit, finally got hold of the Timbl guy in my area.
He's quoting Rs 699+GST for a month & Rs 750 as refundable ONT/Installation charges. Checked their site & the price is 699
Checked through my people/mates, the price is Rs 599+GST

Just wanted to know what's the real actual price. Doesn't make a difference to me for a mere Rs 100 but why two quotes for the same service.
Should I talk to the LCO?? I haven't paid anything yet.

They charged me :699( +gst ) +750(ONU) +500 for fibre/installation !
Apart from that they do have hidden FUP of 500 gb for 50 Mbps plan ! Confirmed twice from customer care and even experienced myself . If ur consumption is beyond 500 GB , would advise to look for alternative.

Location : UP east
