Hosting a RIPE Atlas probe on your network

Have you heard about Ripe Atlas project ?
RIPE Atlas
RIPE NCC is running an excellent project called RIPE Atlas from few years. This is one of the largest distributed network measurement projects where thousands of users host small devices called RIPE Atlas Probes on their networks, home connections, data centers etc. These probes do measurement under both public and private category and make that data available publicly for use by network engineers and helps in optimising routing.

These can help other users to run ping, trace route etc from other networks to detect latency, routing issues.

I have been hosting few of these and wanted to check with other users in India if they can host some devices.
It does not have any major requirements and just need USB power, uses 4-5kbps internet for tests and be available online 24/7.

I have 2 devices which I can share at this time.

To setup new device will need your email(invite and account for accessing online tools) and ISP details(ASN) to set it up.

Some more explaining how Ripe Atlas works and can help Network users/teams

You get credits for uptime and for running measurements on probe.
Approx 22k+ 4-6k daily.

And for your own udm you have to pay with credits.

How many probes are there on Jio network? Would be nice to have some more probes there. Now that there is more traffic/users to the Jio section of this website, maybe a crosspost there? A polite suggestion @Sushubh 😀

i am not sure what you want me to do. you would have to start a new thread there advising jio customers to get these probes and install them on their network 😕

Anurag Bhatia sent me on August 10th and I recieved it in August 12th.

RIPE took a long time (~10-15days) because it came from Netherlands.

India recently just crossed 100 active probes!

Touched 100 probes on 8/9/2020

I am running way behind schedule in sending the probes to folks within India(primarily since the probes are in my office and I have yet to schedule a visit during off peak hours. Haven't visited since 15th March 😗). So, technically all probes at my end have already been taken.

Having said that, RIPE NCC are in the process of shipping a few probes to me this week. I'll update here as soon as I receive them.
