What do I do guys Will they shift to FTTH if I threaten them to disconnect?

I spoke to the call centre today and the bloke at the end of the line was non committal on when I can expect a fibre connection. I said "what's the point of keeping a 40 Mbps line when others are offering 100+ Mbps??". he said "Sir its your choice". TBH, Airtel is too busy licking its AGR and other wounds to bother about whining BB customers here and there.

So, I am now actively contemplating disconnecting my Airtel VDSL connection. And will wait till the fibre line is installed before reapplying. The only advantage I see now is the land line and the public IP Airtel offers. That's not nearly enough incentive to keep it.

and looks like my third attempt to switch from adsl to vdsl is stuck again. and i would have to go through the same cycle again.

apply for disconnection.
operator accepts my request.
i get a call from a guy who asks me for details. i explain to him that i was offered 650 rupee plan with 180GB at 40mbps. he states that this plan is not available. i tell him to proceed with disconnection.
next day i get a call again. who asks me for same details. i explain to him again. he says, yes i can see the 650 rupee plan offered to you. do you want to proceed? i say yes. he promises that this would be done on priority. cancels my disconnection request.
a week later... i am like... what's going on. why am i still on 499 adsl plan?

cycle repeats.

and yes. they don't care anymore. retention department would not offer any discounts. they would take your disconnection request immediately. but getting the connection disconnection remains a hassle it seems.

@Sushubh I am not sure if Airtel cares any more. While the technical team is good the call centre reps are extremely lax.

EDIT - yeah, just saw your rejoinder post..I agree.

the message about pending request would disappear in a few days.

honestly, the only reason i am keeping airtel is because i want a landline at home. 650+99+18% is way too much for the landline imo. but what can one do. only other option is to get a bsnl connection.

gsm would again have the same problem as mobiles... not sure what a wireless terminal is?

i assume jio can be considered if and when they arrive. can take their base plan. only need landline and backup connection for when excitel is down.

in the end, i guess vowifi would basically negate the need of having a landline at home. network congestion is the main issue.

I recently disconnected my MTNL landline after many decades of meritorious service 😁. Jio fiber though it offers a landline phone connection 'free', needs the modem to be on 24x7 to be useful plus ever alternate Sat the jio fiber goes dead for most of the day & comes on after 6.30pm. 🤦🏻‍♂

i don't think they add 299 addon for free if you pay for multiple months in one go around here. 🤔
