Testing is low... If high cases are reported, it would freak out the people, those who care.

Sharing a personal experience with covid in my family. So my extended family recently went through covid. This is the sequence of events.

There was my cousin's wedding 2 weeks back. The entire family of my cousin and the fiance's family were tested with RT PCR before the wedding. Everyone was negative. Covid protocols were followed during the wedding. There were less than 100 people only in the closed indoor venue. Even eating arrangements were held in batches of only 50 people.

Fast forward to 5 days later, cousin and his family fell sick. Mild symptoms but included high fever for two days, night sweats, loss of smell (only for 2 people, not everyone), mild cough occasionally. Tested with RT PCR and was positive. Don't know which variant.

My family and I spent a good 6 hours with them at their house, mask less. As soon as they showed symptoms, my family and I went into self-quarantine obviously. We never developed any fever or other symptoms during our 10 day quarantine.

Now all of this is anecdotal so take it at face value
1) Cousins family was vaccinated with Pfizer from abroad in March/April.
2) My family was vaccinated with Covishield in August/September.

Considering 6 hours is adequate time to establish proper exposure, I'm guessing the only reason that my family didn't develop covid is that our vaccination was just 4-5 months ago, and antibody titres were probably still quite high. Asymptomatic carrier infection is also another explanation, but don't know since we didn't test after 10 days of quarantine. We wore masks in the house amongst ourselves since we decided whether or not we're infected, it's best to not contribute to viral load within the house.
