The BSNL broadband system is really scaring. How can parellel loggin being allowed and sombody logging daily for 24 hours most of the days and using in Gigabytes range. There should be a warning system to alert once the usage limit is reached.

There are so many simultaneous log ons.  I told BSNL today that if they have a default password, they can expect people to take advantage of it.  Whoever heard of a "default" password?

well smita, i can see that there have been double logins into your account (2 persons logging into the same simultaneously)... the relevant pairs have been shown only... please show this to bsnl

(two simultaneous logins between 6pm to 12 midnight)

there any many such instances.. what is worrying me is the one computer is logging in and using the account for either 24 hours or for very long periods of time.. seems oyur account has been compromised (hacked).. please contact the DE (Internal) and I'M sure thay will be able to track the phone numbers that have been used to log in... check the other instances of 24 or high usage from your account (these are apart from another simultaneous login to your account for the same period)

I am sure that BSNL, will be able to book the culprit and brink him to task. If that does happen, I do hope that I do get atleast a `Cadbury' (kuuch mitha ho jaiya) from you

Yes I agree with you absolutely. If theres a kind of meter, like in DIAS, we would immediately know when somebody is abusing our accounts. However, just to access the Broadband usage, one has to download Chinese (simplfied) text display support! Which I didnt do for a while, thinking that my downloads would increase! And that I would exceed the 1 GIG limit!!!!

For your information Pupudada, your cadburys is ready and waiting! However, I have tried in vain to convince the BSNL burra saabs that somebody had been misusing my account. They have sent me a provisional bill for around 13,300 plus. I dont see why I should pay it, so its going to be Goodbye Broadband for me, and Welcome BFone 499 perhaps, or maybe Reliance (bigger thieves) or Tata Indicom.

ouch! you should have d/loaded that chinese `std' (simplefied text display).. was just some kbs.. anyways, no use crying over spilt milk. as far as the cadbury is concerned, shall take that only after your sace has been resolved amicable. please take a print-out of your usage to the burra saabs and show them what i had pointed out.. dual login, and tell them that please try to track down the culprit who was using the same for nearly the whole month @ 24 hours per day. do not pay the provisional bill.. u have got a right to demand to know who has been misusing your account.. tell them that you'll go to the consumers forum otherwise. as far as reliance is concerned, well it's not here in kolkata (and i was assuming that you were from here).. tata's schemes are the most lousy (i had used their account before bsnl came in). airtell, i heard is good.. but still not in kolkata.

moral: try to visit them again with a print out and try to reason, if not then go to the consumers forum (if bsnl wants they can easily track down the other phone number). and as far as the `kuch mitha ho jai' is concerned, enjoy the same for the time being, and if you do succeed in receiving a fair bill, get one for me.. 😀

Of course Reliance is here in Kolkata. I have been logging on from my handset for the past two years or more whenever DIAS/broadband lets me down. There's an usb cable and its 25 paisa per min. Thats okay for downloading. Connectivity aint bad either tho nowhere near the 126kbps they claim, though some days it aint too bad. No downloading charges or data exchange charges. Since I rarely download anything apart from Norton updates, check mail and chat with my sister who lives abroad, I dont really require broadband.

The big wigs dont understand multiple log ons and such stuff. The GM (Operations) told me its like using my credit card and refusing to pay. I didnt feel like telling him on the phone that my credit card liability if its stolen or misused is $50.00 only. But dont worry, I will tell him when I meet him. He also said that if they want me to check the numbers from which the log ons were made, I wd have to pay the provisional bill. After much ado, I managed to get it faxed to me. However, the Chief Accounts Officer (CAOTR) called me to say I could not pay a fax bill.

So what the hell does one do with these ignorant guys? And then they wonder why their customers are dumping their BSNL phones!

Reliance and Tata Indicom both have landlines from which you can log on.

www.relianceinfo.com

Some of these are prepaid and one thing good about reliance, it is number specific log on. Your user name is your phone number and your password is your phone number too. So nobody else can log on.

Looking forward to meeting you at the next Telephone Adalat.

yes, please send me an sms. How can I "pm" you my mobile number?sban29

Aha logging on thru the reliance phone @ 25 paise per minute. Well they have installed the frames for setting up an hub in my uncle's place more than a year ago, but then nothing after that. Will have to wait and see. I had personally seen the Reliance connection in operation and was not satisfied.

I am the senior operator of the official emule forum and also do post and moderate quite a number of other forums, translated that means I spend 7-9 hours online every day, so Reliance would just not do.

I'll see if I can go to Ananda Bazaar Patrika / The Telegraph's office and meet some of the reporters and thell them the entire story (you can try to contact them on 22378000). As I had mentioned in one of my other posts that I had received an absurd bill.. well they have corrected the same. BSNL is relatively new in this field and one must give them some time to rectify themselves.. mark my words.. once they get their own cable gateway, they shall become the best ISP in India.

Could not catch what you meant by

I have been using VSNL 2 days after they started their service (17th August 1995) and ever since it has gone into the hands of the Tata's it has gone down the dumps. Yes their `krakblok' service (identifying your log-in by your phone) was coded by Baidyanath Chatterjee (a freind of mine and who is currently the Sys-Op of VSNL, Kolkata). BSNL could try such an approach too.

As far as sending me a PM is concerned.. just look below this post and you'll see a line.. `User is offline Profile Card PM' just click on the link and follow the same to send me a PM. 😉

It means that I received a phone call on my mobile from the CAOTR asking if I had received the fax. Upon confirmation that i had received it, he said, Madam, there is a problem, you cant pay a faxed bill. You will have to come and collect the original bill from Hare Street. Otherwise your payment will not be accepted. So then what was the use of sending my bill by fax? Your PM link does not work, at least, today it didnt. It says Error, etc etc. Are you on yahoo or msn messenger?sban29

Oh, I forgot to mention, I have already spoken with a friend who is in charge of the Ananda Bazar website, and he proposes to meet the GM Operations and do an article on Broadband and billing problems. As I mentioned, I was a DIAS user for almost three years, and DIAS did give your meter reading every day. So its not as if BSNL doesnt have the technology. They have it, but they choose not to use it.Surely its not that difficult?DIAS, when it started, gave you a static IP address, but now its a Dynamic IP address, so thats why you have to log on. Earlier, you switched on your computer and you got connected and straight on to Explorer. There was nothing wrong with that system. Its even the same software, PPPoe or whatever. Its the default password in my opinion thats causing the problems, and for some reason the system is every now and again reverting everybody to the default password. A friend of mine also got huge broadband usage bills when his phone was dead for a period. The solution is easy and in their hands. There is no great technical knowledge required. They just cant be bothered so long as people say "My God!!!!" and continue to pay absurd bills.sban29

Strange, I just pm'd myself and got the same too. Please check your mail. Okay i get what you meant by that fax thingy. Strange are the ways of BSNL. But i have a feeling that in the not-to-distant future, BSNL will come out tops. They have entered the field quite late and some hiccups are acceptable if they do accept their mistakes, and what is more important, learn from them.
