Go to the about section in the settings of the STB. You will find an option to do the reset.

So my 1 gbps connection is getting worse by the day, and I'm not hitting more than 700 mbps on LAN (different cables, laptops etc).

Lodged a complaint with CC - they told me 1 gbps means anything between 800-1000 mbps, not necessarily 900 mbps+ - I was like if your definition of 1 gbps is losing 20% of the speed, I should also pay 20% less ! After some back and forth, I just kept on asking for an escalation, and a tech visit was planned.

What a tech - guy calls up, asks if I am still having the issue. I say, yes. Tell him I am getting 700 mbps. Guy says that's what I will get. Nobody is getting the full gigabit speeds, and there's nothing he can do about it ! 🤬

Called up CC again, somehow the agent was one of the better ones, and he said I should surely get close to gigabit, if not gigabit. Another "visit" scheduled for 27th.

Will be going back to 500 mbps after the plan expires. Jio is really not ready for gigabit plans.

I'm not sure what the issue is, you seem to be having unreasonable expectations.

Theoretical max a gigabit ethernet connection would support is some 920-940 Mbps due to the many over heads.

Now, I'm not sure how you are testing this, but a public Speedtest may not be an ideal test for gigabit speeds. Also, are you directly connected to the Jio device (without any router or devices in between?)

And the most important thing is, this is over a consumer xPON network, which by definition is a shared medium. You do not have a dedicated link from your home, it's shared with many users.

If you need a dedicated gigabit connection, you'd need to pay much more than this and get better equipment too.

@varkey My expectation is simple - if I pay for gigabit speeds, I get at least 900mbps+ via LAN. is that unreasonable ?

I've tested via speedtest, downloads via MS/Google servers etc.

Yes, I am sure I am connected to Jio device without anything else in between (via a LAN cable - Cat 6/7)

Regarding the last point, again, Airtel next door gives true gigabit. We hit almost 950+ everytime. So does Spectra, both in speedtests and downloads. And that is with dogfood Airtel modem/router combo.

My gripe is, again, simple - you pay for gigabit, you don't get gigabit. It's a monetary loss. These are consumer plans, not enterprise plans. Jio has give me a modem (JCO500), and it is supposed to work with the plans they are offering.

I can't stand when people say such things are unreasonable. That's like thinking the other person is an idiot ! If you can help, great. If you can't, please stop being condescending.

@Nitin Yes. Same speeds. 700-ish.

The Diamond plan used to give around 480 on a 500 connection, and the 1 gbps is giving 700 (all LAN, with no wifi connected, router restarted etc). I am talking abut direct download speeds from MS/Apple/Google servers - not speedtest (which can vary wildly). And somehow I have unreasonable expectations. 🙄

Now lobbying the RWA to allow Airtel fiber to be laid in our society. It's so much better. 😕
