The behavior on my phone is random. For some time it shows ads blocked and than randomly ads start loading and it repeats. Not sure if this is connected to phone update i got last night. NextDNS status page confirms connection even when the ads are loading 😌
so no one else is noticing this behavior? i guess i gotta find someone on excitel to use my NextDNS profile and see if this behavior is replicated there.
right. so i can safely say that samsung somehow managed to fuck up the private dns feature on s10 lite in the update that was delivered few days ago. i am now using NextDNS app which basically runs like a VPN for the same functionality and it seems to be working fine now. kind of annoying but i am kind of used to ad-free experience on the phone so would have to live with it.
also this is not the first time i have seen this behavior. dad's Redmi note 7 used to do this when i first started using NextDNS. whenever i checked his phone, ads would be loading. i restart the phone and they would be gone. and then they appeared again after a few hours. in my case, i am able to fix it by just restarting chrome on my phone.
i have replicated this issue on edge which is based on chrome but is probably not on the same build. so it is unlikely that chrome is the culprit here. should check firefox i guess.
NextDNS now has a CLI which can be deployed to most routers. Can have custom IP address level policies too. Perhaps you can try that so that all devices in the network automatically use NextDNS.
Ofcourse when not using the home wireless network, it would default to the ISP resolvers.
