Open it up. I just cracked open one and there is no batteries inside. The crooked staffs at BSNL sell the batteries to outside vendors for money. Open yours and check if there is any battery inside.

It is a real UPS, but a faulty one. Even mine hasn't worked for the past 2 years.

this looks like a very elaborate scam of completely stealing batteries or replacing them with old non working ones.

In its defence, such batteries doesn't last forever and would die right. The batteries would need to be replaced from time to time.

If I remember well, it was mentioned in the instructions that the wires are meant to be disconnected. It is supposed to be connected by customers.
 
oh wow this is shipped with wires disconnected.

usually idle battery is not charged to prevent damage to it from remaining idle over long time.
