Your phone In 2020 Could Soon Become Your Mobile Driver's License Or As Proof Of ID

We already have digital driving license in mParivahan app.

I think the current system of physical license copy is better. If you cannot responsibly remember to carry your license, probably you are not responsible enough to be behind the wheels. (ofcourse forgetting once in a while is acceptable and you have to pay fine of 100 only if you forget it)

@Smh Physical driving license is not convenient for people using more than one vehicle. I keep the physical card in the glovebox of my car and while riding my bike I just keep the digital version in my phone.

Steal someone's mobile phone and you can steal someone's identity, life savings(connected to banks), and also destroy someone's life(just think of the personal information stored on it). And also there is the sim swapping threat where you will have your mobile handset and yet suffer.
The mobile phone has become a major threat to individual, that can not only be used to track you but also you have to pay for the privilege of being surveilled.

Twelve Million Phones, One Dataset, Zero Privacy
One search turned up more than a dozen people visiting the Playboy Mansion, some overnight. Without much effort we spotted visitors to the estates of Johnny Depp, Tiger Woods and Arnold Schwarzenegger, connecting the devices’ owners to the residences indefinitely.
If you could see the full trove, you might never use your phone the same way again.
It doesn’t take much imagination to conjure the powers such always-on surveillance can provide an authoritarian regime like China’s. Within America’s own representative democracy, citizens would surely rise up in outrage if the government attempted to mandate that every person above the age of 12 carry a tracking device that revealed their location 24 hours a day. Yet, in the decade since Apple’s App Store was created, Americans have, app by app, consented to just such a system run by private companies. Now, as the decade ends, tens of millions of Americans, including many children, find themselves carrying spies in their pockets during the day and leaving them beside their beds at night — even though the corporations that control their data are far less accountable than the government would be.
Is it going to be much different for Indians?

hmm you can still use a 2g phone but even without apps still they can track you with tower location data. Apps just make your location data more accurate.

OR use cash and no phone, internet. Privacy vs Convenience.

The Telecom guys need to locate you, how would you receive your call?. But the apps disclose your locations to various other private companies. Remember the various permissions given to the apps on your smartphone or just accepted all to get use the app?

The difference between medicine and poison is the dosage, even life gving water in excess leads to death. How can someone die from drinking too much water?

Just as Linking Aadhaar to everything under the sun including you phone is undermining democracy. Just think about how the phone data of the CAA/NRC protesters combined with Aadhaar linked info can be used against them.

Now you are just posting BS aadhar, CAA NRC are not related to this and I don't intend to discuss politics here.

If you prefer convenience of gps thats on you, if you are paranoid and cannot use 2g either don't download third party apps or learn to disable gps function physically from your phone.

Idk how medicine dosage or water logic applies here, if you decide to ignore the dosage limit of anything it can harm you, even pure oxygen can be deadly. Share bank OTP and you will lose money.

Anyone paranoid like you should stop using internet, phone and only use cash. There are backdoors on hardware level there is no escape from it. Even before internet govt could track you.

Open your own thread to post conspiracy theories. You are only posting tin foil hat stuff so there is no winning with you its like discussing with a religious fanatic, you cannot discuss things rationally. Ranting is ok but creating a account only to rant just makes you an annoying user who I will put on my ignore list.

Guess I am not the only one who thinks so.
How Your Phone Betrays Democracy
But in addition to the bright lights, each phone is also emitting another beacon in the darkness — one that’s invisible to the human eye. This signal is captured and collected, sometimes many times per minute, not by a drone but by smartphone apps. The signal keeps broadcasting, long after the protesters turn off their camera lights, head to their homes and take off their masks.
“Without question it’s sinister,” said Todd Gitlin, professor of journalism at Columbia University and former president of Students for a Democratic Society, a prominent activist group in the 1960s. “It will chill certain constitutionally permitted expressions. If people know they’ll be tracked, it will certainly make them think twice before linking themselves to a movement.”
Imagine the following nightmare scenarios: Governments using location data to identify political enemies at major protests. Prosecutors or the police using location information to intimidate criminal defendants into taking plea deals. A rogue employee at an ad-tech location company sharing raw data with a politically motivated group. A megadonor purchasing a location company to help bolster political targeting abilities for his party and using the information to dox protesters. A white supremacist group breaching the insecure servers of a small location startup and learning the home addresses of potential targets
