I too heard that issue..
@vignesh_venkatesan Any android boxes you would like to suggest below 4k or max 5k. 😊

@abbyck Yep, they said the same to me. Thanks! I was just checking, not really getting it! 🎅 😉

🤦‍♂️Ended up ordering it @abbyck 💸Was planning to replace my aged (6 year old) Western Digital N750 router and this seemed like a good option.
Ordered from this link US $37.39 21% OFF|Xiaomi MI WiFi Wireless Router 3G / 4 867Mbps WiFi Repeater 4 1167Mbps 2.4G/5GHz Dual 128MB Band Flash ROM APP Control-in Wireless Routers from Computer & Office on AliExpress and had an 8 $ off on 50 $ coupon so ended up getting it for 2.9k or so.

The less number of physical ports is an issue, but 3 should be enough for me (2 for WAN primary & backup and one for LAN)

@varkey I too need a router by next month. (bridging😁😁😁🤣)
Should I choose c6 or go with this mi 3g router..?
Can u explain why you are choosing this one?
Is it just to flash dd-wrt?

I know @varkey, it's a hard product to resist buying 😉.
Glad that I have one more person to troubleshoot with that router
😛.

Out of curiosity what is your backup isp?
My Netlink ONU is dead and waiting for replacement..

@Ameen So you get decent hardware for the given price. Comes with a dual core 880 Mhz processor, 256 MB RAM. 128 MB NAND storage. And primarily it supports OpenWRT. I was earlier planning to get another hap ac2 itself, but that costs some 5.5-6k. At 3k this seemed decent.

In comparison the C6, has only 128 MB RAM, 16 MB ROM, and a 700 Mhz single core processor. OpenWRT support was added recently to the C6 as well so that is not an issue.

Now the C6 costs about 2.2-2.5k depending on the offers available, the MI 3G at 3k is a good price compared to that for the additional hardware you get. (Hoping I don't get slapped with any customs duty 😆 )

@abbyck I use Jio 4G with an external LTE modem as the backup WAN.

My Netlink ONU is dead and waiting for replacement..

Completely dead? Doesn't power on or doesn't register with the OLT?

What was the cost for the router when u purchased it.. ? I did get it for 1.8k under warranty.

@varkey, it is the speed issue that I mentioned earlier. My neighbours on the same plan are getting full speeds. So both LCO and BSNL staff concluded that it might be an issue with ONT. Not completely dead 🙂

Now seriously thinking about getting an ONT as backup and adding a backup connection.
BSNL FTTH used to be a good experience for me, but from the last two months or so the connection has been really unstable all around Kannur district. Yesterday also it was all down in the entire district, Only at around 11:00, it came back. And there is no mobile network ( Only BSNL 2g at -105dB). During any emergency time like examination, there won't be any Internet 💁‍♂️. So leaving to college for Internet 🤗

My options are pretty much limited. Kerala Vision which is recently launched in my area and BSNL DSL(For DSL I may have to go with 4Mbps profile since anything higher is unstable).

@Ameen, I had to pay around 3k for fibre laying and ONT.

@abbyck I see. Are you or the LCO replacing it under warranty? What is the process for that?

Regarding the BSNL instability, does the fiber link go down or just the PPP auth fails? If the fiber link itself is stable, perhaps you could get a lower priced Kerala Vision plan, you wouldn't even need another ONT and can use the same ONT for both at the same time.

However this again adds a single point of failure. But then even if you go for BSNL DSL, if it's an issue with their PPP auth server, even DSL would be affected.

Would mounting an external LTE modem on a pole sufficiently high give you signal? Then maybe that can be an option. There are external LTE CPE devices with directional antennas which you could try if at all that's a possibility.

@Ameen I had to pay 3k for the Netlink WiFi ONT 😑Clearly overcharged but at the time I just wanted it quick so didn't try to get the device myself.

@varkey. I think this will be done through the LCO. I haven't asked about it.They said they still have to find an EPON OLT and make sure it is the OLT's fault as both these parties doesn't have a spare.

Regarding the BSNL instability, the fibre link was up(From LCO to my place). I don't exactly know which all things were not working. Clearly PPP wasn't working. LCO told there is nothing wrong from their end. Even their SIP phone wasn't working yesterday.

I don't know the quality of Kerala Vision broadband in my area. Need to check with neighbours and decide.

Like you said, I was thinking about getting some outdoor modems or a tri band signal booster.

@Ameen, I too wanted it quickly and my LCO said it is not available outside. So...

Kerala vision plans are also cheap and attractive ones. But don't know who much speed you would get out of thier advert speed.
