as some users have reported random device connected to wifi and jio has complete remote access to router will they use it a public hotspot ?

that's what the theory is on reddit. that would boost their network coverage for both volte and LTE.

I already find the wifi range on Jio router to be worse than previous adsl airtel router. That seems highly unlikely. However the part about Jio controlling your router is true. You can change SSID and password of jio router using my jio app and block devices in real time even on any other network with internet access. They also have MAC address and name of every device that you ever connect to network.

Regarding the isp being able to control/change customers CPE settings has always been there. Even MTNL could do that & they did like changing DNS enterirs etc. Whether they can make ur router into a hotspot is debatable. They will probably require ur permission.

Using customer router as public wifi hotspot is nothing new. Been happening with ISPs in the US for years now already. Jio is just following that trend.

Yes, I'm sure it's there in the fine print 😀

just imagine you have the power to shut down the wifi hotspot in your area. assuming you are the only one being used around there lol.

With or without the permission of the customer?
i assume they are not 'selling' the STB to the user to save on GST. so they own the STB. so they can do whatever with it. of course the main issue remains that you are paying for the power to the product.
