BSNL Nokia-Siemens H640V-G25E won't connect to the internet after trying to log in with an unregistered device.

I just got a new Netlink modem so I removed the optical patch cord from the BSNL modem and connected it to this, entered my uname and pwd and tried to connect. I knew it wouldn't, but did it anyway to see if it dials properly or not.

Obviously it failed (since the device hasn't been registered by the BSNL people yet). So I just connected my original BSNL modem back to resume my internet - but it won't connect! The 3rd light which is for the internet connection indication just keeps blinking (Power and GPON Link lights are green and stable).

Does an unregistered device trying to log in trigger a block on BSNL or something?

@Nikhil Sharma Yes, an even stranger thing has happened. On the Router device info page, its MAC address has changed to a different one. How is that even possible?

BSNL binds the the PPPoE authentication to the MAC address of the first device which authenticates. Now if your new ONT shows green for fiber connectivity, then you could just put it in bridge mode and clone the MAC address of your main router to the original WAN side MAC of your previous ONT. (You could also get this from the self care portal)

@varkey That's what I tried but sadly the damn ONT doesn't have the bridge option even though it's supposed to have it. I've replied to your message in my post in the modems forum section

@vishalrao, is entering VLAN a need or if I just leave "Enable VLAN" unchecked it'd work fine?

You wouldn't need to even create a WAN connection right, so where does the "Enable VLAN" option even come?

I've tried a multitude of different things and it's a mess right now lol.

First off, there are 3 possible MAC address that my SDO has configured, and I don't know which it is. So I've tried one MAC of the ONT device using a WAN configuration, and I've tried the other 2 MACs by bridging the modem to my router (by not creating any WAN) and cloning the 2 possible MACs using the custom MAC option. Nothing has given me internet access yet.

Which port of the router should I connect the modem to while in Bridge mode? Is the usual WAN port okay or does it have to be one of the LAN ports?

Yes, but I'd also requested the SDO to update my MAC to that of the new device. But the ONT box had one MAC (which I told to the SDO), BUT in the ONT config page the MAC was different (last digit), so I asked them to update it again.

So at this point in time I don't know if they ever updated it in the first place, or updated once and not the second time, or if it's updated fully and I'm still not getting a connection. Hence, 3 possible MACs.

@varkey I suppose the core issue remains why the Bridge mode isn't working like it's supposed to. I'm setting up PPPoE on the router and cloning all possible MACs, but nothing.

There's no option to do so, and my SDO guy said there's no need, I'll have access without it.

If you were configuring the VLAN in the original ONT then you'd need to do the same here too. If you router doesn't support VLANs then that would be a problem.

Unless the BSNL internet VLAN is set as the default VLAN.

Definitely wasn't configuring VLAN in the original ONT either, there wasn't even a VLAN option in the original ONT. Does the default VLAN have a set value or does it change from SDO to SDO?
