my friend has managed to break his splitter. now the question is whether he can approach `bsnl' for a replacement (he is paying rental for the modem, but since the splitter has broken due to physical mishandling, i doubt `bsnl' will replace the same). cal a splitter be purchased from the market? if yes, what is the approximate price? thanks in advance.. pupudada

I have heard that this splitter is not just a common splitter available in market. Not sure though

yes.. sigh, it splits the signals into 2 different frequencies... not too sure technically.. so now what happens?? has the other person got no way out except to purchase a new modem? 🙁 pupudada

well, i am not an expert in this, but i'm sure BSNL will be willing to offer a new splitter for a cost. They seem to use the same splitter , regardless of the type of modem, so it musn't be too difficult for them to sell you (or your friend) a new splitter without much problem. ( and definitely without having to buy a new modem )

ya why not you get ADSL splitters in market, It is a simple FDM circuit, they separate voice frequecy and the other one.....
the prices start from 100 --- 250 Rs. a Rs.100-- 150 ADSL splitter must be fine, I have the same with me it's working fine.

As I understand, the Huawei mt800 modem that i use, has a facility to connect without a splitter. The modem manual says it has a low pass filter to separate voice and data. I have not tried it myself, but it is worthwile to know if that will work!

I got the splitter from bsnl too. When I got my connection, bsnl accidentally gave me the modem eventhough I had my own. So I used their modem for 2 months. After that I used my modem and airtel's splitter and it didn't work so I asked the bsnl technician to let me borrow the splitter for 15 days. After that I never gave it back to him and in june moved house. So I still have the splitter with me. The odd thing is that the frequencies used on this Huawei splitter is a little diff from airtel. Not sure if airtel is deviating from the norm or huawei(I'm guessing huawei) but it is a problem because the bsnl guys don't sell splitters separately. To get around this problem, I contacted huawei india's office in bangalore and gurgaon but they don't deal with customers directly. Frankly, huawei's equipment and implementation is kind of inferior to airtel's dsl. In airtel(and other normal dsl ISP's around the world), you can use the phone line BEFORE splitting, but not with bsnl. And lastly, I spoke with ebay guys 2-3 weeks back and they will be phasing out paisapay in 6 months and introducing paypal in India.

cool..paypal is nice 🙂even in MTNL im using line directly...i.e. no splitting..so both my splitters free..being used in other rooms..

Yes, There is some problem with BSNL DNS servers. They dont resolve paypal, either due to some problem or may be intentionally blocked 🙁 .Regards
