Edited title for google

tldr: BSES changed fully functional meters, took wrong reading manually and now I have to pay 3x of my regular bill.

So BSES few months ago replaced everyone's meter in our area for no reason they switched from clean underground cable to messy overhead cable. All new meter are installed outside house and there were no charges for replacement as they were doing this on their own for no reason.

they checked old meter reading manually and noted it on bill and their forms. I don't even know how they check it manually because there is no visible light and it shows a lot of random stuff. I was not at home to verify if they noted it correctly.

So after coming home I checked and those fucker switched meter no and connection (multiple meters), had to stay at home next day to get this fixed.

Bill was not generated for this month because of replacement reading data was not updated which they noted manually.

Next month bill was generated for 2 meter out of 3 (only online not printed paper bills were distributed like usual) I thought may be there is some delay in data entry paid bills online.

Now another month still no bill for the 3rd meter so I went to BSES and checked there was some error in their SAP so reading data was entered but bill was not generating they fixed it manually, just to do this it took more than 2 hours because there was fucking long line of people complaing about increased bills after meter change.

My bill is 3x of my regular bill because those fuckers entered wrong reading manually which is about 2.5x of my regular monthly consumption. Manual reading of one month is 2x reading of next two months after new meter was installed and they took reading using their device. Funny thing is half the month I was not at home for which they have noted the highest reading and consumption in the next two months should have more because of summer.

Depending upon slabs there are different rates which was increased my bill a lot.

This is the 4th time I am scammed by BSES I don't even want to complain because someone would come fuckup meter seals and just give a handwritten note which was no value officially. Few days later another person would come and say they don't know who came earlier and now you have to pay fine or bribe them. Once their 2 teams had a fight over phone I had to pay them to get them rid of my house.

Most lineman are good (who actually fix stuff) but some of their team who handle seal change and stuff is most corrupt with too much power.

I had same issue few months back when old Reliance meter was replaced by Adani group with their own meters.

The next month I had a shocker!! My bill was 9.5x higher... Yes 9.5 times higher than usual.

Which means that I got bill equivalent to my yearly usage in just one month!!!

I immediately shot them email. Very next day meter reading guy came and said meter is fine.

So I told him that new meter is fine. But when old meter was replaced someone has taken a wrong reading.

So he says he cant do anything because Adani had outsourced meter replacement.

He then noted number of electric items in my house and said I will have to go to Kalina for my complaint and he cant do anything.

I didnt go but I called their customer care... customer care said the same that I will have to go to Kalina.

Then next day I got email from Adani that... meter reading guy had come to my house and meter is fine... so BILL AMOUNT IS CORRECT and I will have to pay.

Then they sent another email saying that if I have to get meter checked i will have to pay some 750Rs or so.

Then another email mentioning the current meter reading (of new meter) and claiming that how it is absolutely fine and that they also checked the meter's internal memory.

All these took like 7-8 days.

So I fired another email on how they were completely NOT realizing that I am talking about OLD meter which is with them and I am not talking about new meter.

It appears that finally someone from their end realized what the issue really was and they checked the reading of OLD meter.

It turned out that 1 (number one) was read as 7 (number 7) by whoever did a manual reading.

So meter reading was 7xxx instead of 1xxx

And they finally sent an amended bill.

I was just happy and lucky that it got resolved over email only and I did not have to run around their offices.

Have too many horror stories about bsnl related to wrong meter reading. Stuff made for nightmares.

@amish yeah its same problem with me BSES outsourced to some new company and they replaced all meters. In my case my bills just stopped generating for some reason so had to visit their office to generate a new bill.

I got bill on 11 july I was shocked because it didn't made sense, new bill format was a little different from usual so took me a day to realize whats wrong.

I registered complaint on BSES website but didn't received any confirmation or complaint no. So sent a long well explained email and got email failed to deliver 🙁 1 hour later got confirmation email WTF ?

Googled more emails have sent one to their head customer service and cgrf.

Can you share email id you used ?

yup. getting meter changed, getting bill corrected, getting subsidy for the solar water heater. everything requires multiple visits to a faraway office. no support on email or telephone. one guy is usually in charge of everything. and he likes to cater to 20 people at the same time. no token system. you just have to behave like an asshole to get heard.

Its Adani not BSES. (although BSES changed to Reliance and then Reliance is now Adani)

But I am not sure if you are in Mumbai. If yes then why do you keep saying BSES? Its been decade now that it was taken over by Reliance.

Exactly, so the email address of Adani (Mumbai) will not solve your problem

yeah but I don't understand why they have to replace working meters and underground cable with overhead cables, those who came to replace just said BSES outsourced some work to other company and they don;t know more. Overhead cables looks ugly and degrade quickly in hot Delhi summers then you have to pay them to get it fixed.

from past experience BSES need 7 days to read email and forward it to right department then 7 more days to reply with wrong/unhelpful answer.

update: my complaint was solved very quickly in about a week. Difference in reading was too much from usual pattern which helped convincing them that they took wrong reading.

I don't know if it was a mistake or they did it because of not getting bribe. (Yes they literally asked for it.) My reason of suspicion is correction done with pen.

Mistake was instead of 2 it was written 6 which increased the reading to 3.5 times. My guess was 3x higher but it was even more.
