Reddit on ACT Fibrenet

i have not tried it myself. but find a domain on cloudflare that is blocked on your isp.
try accessing it on firefox after enabling ESNI and doh in firefox.
it should logically become accessible.

Tried for each and every site and none of them worked.

ESNI becomes enabled when i have cloudflare turned on. i usually keep it off coz there is a massive performance hit at least on my end. i would have to check if i can configure it directly on the server so that it stays on even without cloudflare 😛

so i found a domain that is on cloudflare. but https is not blocked on excitel. http is. https seems mandatory for ESNI.

need to find a domain that has https, is on cloudflare and is blocked on excitel to check if esni works as promised for me lol.

so... since my backup airtel line is dead at the moment... i decided to check on airtel using hotspot on my phone.

i was able to get the domain working on firefox which failed to load on chrome.

everything is blocked on airtel lol. it is hard to find a blocked domain on excitel 😂

It's been working now for the last few hours. I don't think it is blocking by ACT. The simpler explanation to me is that when they have some network issue that only affects a few sites/users, it easier for tier 1 customer care to say the site has been blocked by the govt. If it were really blocked, I'd expect it to be permanently blocked, and for all users on the network 🙂

@georgemp That is the most likely explanation. Even when the news broke out that Reddit is blocked on Jio Gigafiber, IIRC several people reported it was working fine on Jio 4G and at that time I was using BSNL, Reddit wasn't definitely blocked there. So I highly doubt that the govt issued any orders specifically to ban reddit.

But if Reddit is banned in the future it could be due to all the NSFW subs. What happened about the porn ban isn't anyone fighting that?

Just checked on jio Gigafiber, this works after enabling ensi on firefox.

Edit: but reddit stopped working. It seems reddit is down, will update soon.

Edit 2: reddit is working again.

See the problem is if I set network.trr mode to 2, half of the sites like this site stop opening in firefox. I completely reset the browser, deleted firefox profile and reinstalled it with no addons. Just enabled ESNI. Like Hathway is not somehow blocking ESNI connection.
sites like timesofindia and many others work. If I set network.trr to 0, I pass cloudflare's 4 tests but sites remain blocked.

i don't understand why sites would stop loading on ESNI set to 2 🤔

Set network.trr.mode to 2 to make DNS Over HTTPS the browser's first choice but use regular DNS as a fallback (0 is "off by default", 1 lets Firefox pick whichever is faster, 3 for TRR only mode, 5 to explicitly turn it off).
