Excitel
Hey all I today was checking my excitel connection and after I connected the cable directly to my pc then I noticed that the internet started working without creating any dialup connection. Also my PC was given an ip 192.168.1.2 instead of the usual 10...* something.

Also when i try to establish a dialup it errors out and when the cabled is connected to the router if I set it to PPPOE then the internet is ultra slow but when I set it to dynamic IP it gets an ip address 192.168.1.2 and internet works fast again.

Also when the cable is connected to my PC and I type 192.168.1.1 I get to a ZTE page which mentions in setting is a ONU device(The login username and passowrd is obviously simple).

Is a similar thing happening to anyone else on excitel delhi?

Looks like you are connecting to someone else's device on your LCO's network. Must be another device with DHCP enabled. What is your public IP when connected like this?

My Excitel LCO had a similar issue (but static instead of DHCP). I could enter 192.168.200.x as IP and 192.168.200.1 as gateway and get free internet. LCO didn't find out for over two years (i still recharged excitel because the gateway was shared with more people and I often got much lower speeds even compared with Excitel). I think the trick still works even now on my LCO as they only cut the cable to my home.

Public IP is 202...* something. The ZTE device has the type of local IP I used to get ( the one that looks like 10.11..)

I checked the settings of the device and it has a PPPOE WAN connection setup which contains my username and password. The LAN information shows that my device is the only one connected to it right now.

They seem to have pushed me behind another layer of NAT as if CGNAT was'nt enough

I think you are connected to someone else's router who is connected to Excitel. That's why you have another NAT layer.

Edit: The router has your PPPoE login? Are you on Fiber or Ethernet?

Someone else could be stealing your internet. Check the DHCP Sever under LAN settings and see what devices are connected to it. Excitel doesn't allow multiple logins from same PPPoE so thats why you cant dial from your PC as the ZTE device is already logged in.

Im not on fiber and the device shows only my MAC address as the connected device.

The router does have my PPPOE login and has the local IP which excitel network used to give my router.

I'll contact the LCO tommorow and ask what is going on.

Perhaps they just upgraded you to fiber without telling you and installed the ONT near your house or somewhere on the premises (maybe it was cheaper for them?)

Im pretty sure they were running multiple internet from my connection. I changed the password 2 days ago and today the line is completely dead. I was using the default password before and I got it changed by customer care.

Seems like they disconnected the wire from GPON when they saw the connection was no longer working with the default credentials.

The thing is that it was a GEPON device to which I was connected and getting a local IP from and obviously it will consume electricity and surely they were not getting it for free so it must be connected in someone else's house.

The LCO is not picking up calls and I have opened a support ticket now lets see what will happen next

I think his lco is selling one connection to different user to make more profit. Complaint should be given to excitel directly.
