Using Regular (DSL) router with FTTH ONU

I have an FTTH connection at my apartment. The router that comes with it is mentioned below.

The ONU can be used in router mode and bridge mode, currently configured as Router but it's a single band (2.4 Ghz) with WLAN speed upto 300Mbps. I already have a Netgear Dual band router that is ideal for DSL (RJ45) connections. How do I connect that router to ONU and use the it for WiFi instead of ONU.
 
What's your Netgear device's model number?
 
Ok, so to be clear the Netgear R6800 is not a DSL router specifically, it's just a normal (and awesome) wireless router.

I would suggest you to just put the ONT in bridge mode, connect the cable from ONT to the WAN port of the Netgear device. Configure authentication settings for the internet connection on the Netgear.

That should do it unless there is some MAC binding or things like that.

Thanks. The thing is ONU has a voice port and my apartment intercom(normal wired telephone used as intercom) is connected to it, I am not sure if setting ONT/ONU in bridge mode would impact that functionality.
 
It shouldn't, you would only need to change the mode of the internet profile and not the voice profile. Hopefully you should see two WAN profiles/interfaces in the status/config page.

This is how my WAN profile looks (on BSNL FTTH), I have the same ONT btw (although it is Netlink branded)
 

Thanks, appreciate quick responses, Will give it a try, I do remember seeing 2 different WAN profiles. I will change the mode to bridge for internet profile. Hopefully if I do it correctly it should work.
 
Sorry mate, couple of doubts. The current setting of Internet profile has ticked all 3 options port 1 port 2 and WLAN. Please refer screenshot, what is the use of the ticks next to port 1 and 2 in port binding and should I unstick those while setting it up in bridge mode. Also does it affect Internet if I select ipv4/ipv6 as ip protocol instead ipv4. Also I can see service mode as INTERNATE or Other(like in your snapshots). Which one should I choose. Excuse me if I sound too much of a noob.

You could select both port 1 and 2, so that you can easily interchange the ports if required (You don't see it in mine cause I used VLAN based tagging, not relevant for your use case). Regarding IPv4/v6, it shouldn't matter, you could select either one.

For service mode, select other.
 
@varkey i tried following above suggestions but somehow my Netgear router isn't connecting to Internet after I input credentials for PPPOE connection. Funny thing is before I went to configure Internet on my Netgear router it showed Internet status as connected on the status page. Am I missing something, I just changed Internet profile of my ONU to bridge mode. And disabled WLAN for it,slected service mode as 'other'. Am I missing some step, the IP of the 2 routers is same though. 192.168.1.1 do I need to change that for one of the routers?
 
It is possible the ISP may be binding the connection to the MAC address as I mentioned earlier. What does the PPPoE authentication log say?

It is recommended to change the IP address of ONT so that there isn't any conflict and depending on your router options you might be able to configure it so that the ONT web UI remains accessible.

Could you share the screenshot of the WAN profile on the ONT?
