Hathway Broadband is now using Reliance Jio gateway which means all Jio blocked services are now blocked on it

I would like to request this forum's mod/admin to kindly tag this post to both Jio's and Hathway's threads, as it kind of relates to both of them.

Okay, so here it is. I'll tell you exactly how it all started...

Till yesterday, I was able to access all the torrent sites (link-removed, link-removed, etc) and some really good sites (hub and all that....) without any problem. I was having a jolly good time too. Everything was going fine, I was happy with my life (or so I've been telling myself).

What I didn't knew was that my happiness was predestined to be short and limited. Thanks to motabhai.

I had my semester exams today, and because of how boring and dry my exam was, I decided to download the recently released Captain Marvel from link-removed on coming home. But on opening the site, instead of seeing the good stuff, here's what I was greeted with:

Feeling disappointed, I tried some more sites. What I noticed is that, basically all those sites that are blocked in Jio, are now also blocked in Hathway. Nothing works anymore. Even changing the DNS also doesn't help, which wasn't the case earlier.

So, I performed a trace route on the most common site - google.com. And here's the result:

Here's what I found after after a detailed inspection:
Traceroute IP list :
1. My router
2. Hathway's Kolkata Node
3. Hathway's Mumbai Node
4. Jio's Mumbai Node
5-8. Some Internal IPs
9. Google's Gateway
10. The Final Destination

This means that, from now on, whatever blocking that we have on Jio, all Hathway's customers are going to face the same too.

Migration started in Chennai? Not noticing any blocks but seems like some of the routing is through Jio.

Hathway blocked ICMP on their gateway so I'm not able to see any IP's over traceroute.

I think we can access all banned sites if we enable SNI encryption+different DNS from ISP.
On PC i have enabled that on my browser and I can access all the sites.
On Phone too I have enabled it(firefox) but when I try to check it via cloudflare site then it is showing as disabled.

I think this is the reason why we can't access banned sites on phone.

ESNI needs to be enabled at website end as well. Cloudflare I believe is doing it by default for all domains on their platform.

I'm using hathway fiber since it was launched and from the news sites, I came to know that its been taken over by Jio.

Before the merge, the service was really good with 99.999% uptime over the past year. I was actually thinking of writing a huge "positive review" but I'm glad that I didn't do it.

After the merge, the routing has gone to shit. And there has been several disconnections and down times since the past 2 weeks.

The worst of all is that they've blocked google & cloudflare dns, thereby routing those IP's to their own dns which is against Net Neutrality. I think majority of the average users don't know/care about these things unless major things like whatsapp, google etc. are blocked by the (whatever) firewall that they're using. This already feels as if we're not living in a democracy.

PS: I would suggest online gamers to stick with ACT for now.

Can you please elaborate on the matter of Jio blocking Cloudflare's DNS.

I don't know why I'm unable to quote the last post.

Just now checked "1.1.1.1 — the Internet’s Fastest, Privacy-First DNS Resolver" to share the result and it says that its connected to 1.1.1.1. Until last week, the result was "No".

you should be able to use DoH/DoT to get around DNS blocking?
Yes, I can in the PC but I would like to know if its possible for mobile phones android (without root) & ios connecting to WiFi?

I don't see any option in the router and the router that I use is provided by hathway themselves and haven't changed it since it works flawless.

use the 1.1.1.1 mobile app on android or ios. works great on both platforms. on android pie, you don't need to use app to have dns over tls. and do not quote the last post in a thread unless absolutely required. there is a reason why i have to find hacks to disable that functionality. it adds clutter to the thread. in fact do not quote unless absolutely required.
