Hathway's H-Fiber broadband and how it's better than most of the ISPs out there.....

Before I even start on how H-Fiber is better than other ISPs, let me throw some light on what it is actually.

Hathway's H-Fiber is a bit different than Hathway Broadband, or atleast that's the case in our locality (Kolkata). How? Let's see:-

1. Mode of transmission:

Hathway broadband is served directly from ISP's local node to the customer's premises. There is absolutely no involvement of any Local Cable Operator in any way. However, H-Fiber is served via your local cable operator.

This means, if your LCO is a shitty man, you're bound to experience a shitty fibre broadband connection.

2. Medium of transmission:

Hathway broadband uses Coaxial/Ethernet/Fibre in many places. H-Fiber, as the name suggests, is a pure Fibre-to-the-Home network.

3. Websites, login pages and all that...:

Hathway broadband's website is www.hathway.com and their account login page is ispselfcare.hathway.net .
H-Fiber's website is hfiber.in and their account login page is hfiber.in/CustomerPaynow/Frmcustomerlogin.aspx .

Also, Hathway customers get an app for mobile and a free router (depending on availability). We don't get any of that.

4. Plans and pricing:

Following is a snapshot of Hathway Broadband's Plan for Kolkata:

Following is a snapshot of the pamphlet provided to us by the LCO:

7pTkPSa.webp

Comparing both, there is a very little price difference. The major difference would be that, Hathway's Connection has FUP, H-Fiber is truely unlimited.

Now, enough with the comparison. Let's see why it is better than the rest....

Reason 1: All ports are open.

Yes, you read that right. All ports are open in H-Fiber. And by all, I mean all, be it port 25, 80, 443 or something else. Here's a snapshot from canyouseeme.org:

Reason 2: Symmetric Upload and Download Speeds

Some ISPs in kolkata, such as Alliance, offer non-symmetric speed. Like for example, Alliance broadband users get a Down speed of 60 Mbps and an Up spped of 15Mbps. Such is not the case with H-Fiber. Download and Upload speeds remain the same, always.

I use the 70Mbps plan for Rs. 700/- (excluding GST).

Reason 3: Dynamic Public IP Address Allocation

The IP address assigned to you will be a dynamic public IP, meaning that you can access your system from outside with your public IP only. Another way to say this, the value of "What is my IP" in Google Search will be the exact IP address that your router will have on its WAN port.

Reason 4: Supports Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 DNS

Some users complain about their ISPs blocking 1.1.1.1, or even if you use 1.1.1.1, your data gets routed through ISPs DNS somehow. Such is not the case with H-Fiber.

Also, after changing the DNS IP, you won't have to face the problems of sites getting blocked, as we get to see in Jio's infamous sanskari firewall. This means you can access most of the torrent sites and some other sites (if you know what I mean).

Now, coming down to the cons....

1. Connection through LCO.

2. Customer care knows nothing about plan pricing. Whatever the LCO will tell you, you'll have to blindly accept that. For example, I wanted to buy a static IP from Hathway. But, on contacting them, they told me that you'll have to buy it from LCO, and that they can't help with the pricing either, as they don't possess that kind of information.

Other than that, its mostly a stable connection.

I'll highly recommend this H-Fiber connection to anyone in Kolkata, as I think it's the best we can get till now. Also, I think the plan pricing will be slashed soon, once the Jio GigaFiber commercial roll-out begins.

P.S: Since majority of Hathway's shares are now owned by Reliance, I think they're gonna give similar plan pricing.

I am open to all kinds of questions and queries regarding this connection. Ask any question I'll try my best to answer them.

Yeah, I know Hathway is providing Fiber but there isn't any official confirmation via. their team so didn't include.

Anyways, this connection seems to be pretty stable to be honest.

Those stats looks way better than Excitel's.

Good Transit and Routing. Good Ping too.

I hope Hathway launches Fiber in Delhi too. Hathway's service is pretty stable unlike Excitel.

Best thing is, except for Airtel none major ISP is giving Port Forwarding.

So, It's a big move from Hathway.

It is my personal experience with Hathway if internet stops working, it gets fixed within 4 hours no matter what's the issue is.

They even work on sundays and late-nights if the issue is major.

So yeah, if Hathway comes with Fiber? It's a win. Since they offer huge discounts.

Yeah, you're right. I hope Hathway implements fibre in every location, as it's pretty evident by now, that speed, latency and other such related issues aren't going to solve if the line is served vie ethernet or coaxial cables.

If the connection is configured properly..Then you will notice negligible difference between fiber & ethernet.

Hathway has fiber and in Delhi too , my cousin has ftth Hathway 100mbps without fup 1000rs a month

So I am on Siti( Indinet ) broadband currently because only a Siti broadband LCO is near me. There's a hfiber LCO but he's 700 meters away from my home. He said he would do a direct connection for me but I might have to end up paying 14,000-15,000 INR for the fiber cable and the media converters. The only reason I need to switch is because Siti has horrible routing and bad peering in Kolkata. Also the ping is waay too high for games like csgo and there's always a constant 30~40% packet loss. Biggest thing is, they just disconnect the internet whenever there's a bit of cloud in the horizon. So my question is, does hfiber have any of those issues? What is the ping like in CSGO, Rainbow six seige, Fortnite and in Discord is there any packet loss? Do you get the speed that you pay for ( for an example, I have the 120 mbps plan on Indinet and I get 90 mbps up and down and whenever I call them they say it's fine )? Do you get full speed on steam and torrent downloads? (I never get above 1 MBPS on both of them because they say, "Steam is not a supported website and downloading torrents even ubuntu is illegal and they don't support it), Does twitch work fine or does it buffer like it does in Indinet? How much does your LCO charge for a static IP because my hfiber LCO told me that they will take 3500~4500 INR per year for static IP. I am really sorry if I am asking too many questions ( And for the horrible formatting) but I really don't have any other options. Hope you understand 🙂

^ Paying 15K just for Gaming? Isn't worth it.

Hathway has 60-80ms ping in Siege.

I have used Hathway for 1+ Year with Siege.

I know but I really don't have any other option as I get ~180ms in siege sea server and it's not only for gaming. I need atleast acceptable speeds as well.

Keep that in mind, You will have to pay the money if the wire gets broken.

700 meter is a huge distance.

What level and rank are you in Siege?

Hm. That's a good point.

We all bought r6 back in April. I was level 30 and just got access to ranked matches probably a moth ago. Me and one of my friend (he is also on siti/indinet) was teleporting all the time and it was literally unplayable at that point. So we all decided to stop. Now we only play CSGO, sometimes fortnite and other stuffs like the division (even there it says poor connection to the host server), ghost recon wildlands etc.

Also, it's not only for games. I need atleast acceptable download speeds as well. I don't think 1 MBPS on steam and other downloads and torrents and Twitch buffering is what I should accept from my 120 Mbps symmetric connection.

1. Because Division doesn't have servers in India. It says Poor Connection to the Host Server for mostly every Indian ISP. You most probably get connected to the EU Servers.

2. You can use Jio 4G for the Rainbow Six Siege. A lot of people use that to play Siege.

3. CS:GO has servers in India and multiple Pop Servers so that's why you're seeing good performance there.

4. Twitch buffers for almost all the ISPs because Twitch doesn't have servers in India.

5. There is some sort of Routing issue with your current ISP.

What is your ping in ms to the Singapore (SEAS) servers of Siege on your current ISP?

SEAS server is 180MS. Thing is that, whenever I call their customer care, they just forward the ticket to my LCO and he says that SITI broadband doesn't deal with high ping issues. Now if I call them and tell them that they have routing issues not the LCO, they tell me to bugger off. One guy literally asked me why I am so picky with my internet.

Okay so finally after a long conversation with the hfiber LCO, he told me that he is implementing a new networking system which will take around 2 and a half months and then he can hook me up with a connection with one ONT. Then the installation charges will be about 2500~3000 INR. Do you get good download speeds on torrents because Siti broadband has really bad peering issues and it is one of the main reason I am switching.
