Excitel Broadband: Slow Internet Speeds to Many Servers and Locations

Hi! Speeds on Excitel Broadband are pathetic from morning till mid-night. It starts to have bad speeds around 8 AM and continues to be bad until 1 AM. So the whole day, Excitel is struggling to have speeds. Some locations/servers are so bad that they don't go more than 1 Mbps in speed including Amazon Web Services, Hotstar, DigitalOcean.

Some people have also complaint of poor Netflix and other streaming website not able to stream properly on Excitel.

I have done detailed analysis in this whole thread and below are the mentioned servers where speeds are bad when the problem occurs. (These are bunch of servers, I have tested 10-15 servers at most and out of which these are facing the issues).

Right now, maximum of the Speedtest.net Node in Mumbai for example: Jio Mumbai (not Navi Mumbai), Airtel Broadband have only speed of 1Mbps (Up and Down)

(Speed is so poor that Upload couldn't happen)

Are you also facing same issue?

UPDATE #2: Speeds are back to ashes (shit) and everything is slow now for me and other Excitel Customers also in other areas.

As I said, Speeds will go into the Ashes. It's happening now.

Time: 11:08 AM

Digital Ocean:

In some hours, Speedtest.net and Digital Ocean will show more speed drops.

UPDATE #1: This is the first time, I am sure that Excitel's Peering and Routing is messed up since it's happening with multiple people at multiple locations throughout Delhi (East, West and even Gurgaon).

Edit ( 1:28 AM): This is the first time, I am sure that Excitel's Peering and Routing is messed up since it's happening with multiple people at multiple locations throughout Delhi (East, West and even Gurgaon).

You can clearly see, where at mid-night even the SINGLE are working awesome, at the morning, noon and evening.. Multi is failing to provide the speeds for not just me but a lot of customers (living in different areas) of Excitel.

I hope I have provided enough of proof that. Something's wrong with the Excitel itself. And tomorrow it will again go back to ashes.

Speeds on most of the servers are back including Digital Ocean.

Note for Excitel Fellow Users: If you're using Excitel, please do the Digital Ocean Speed Test in the noon.

Anything around early morning / late night is useless since I just asked 2-3 friends of mine and they sent me screenshots.

They are also getting 1-5 Mbps speed only on Digital Ocean.

Secondly, they are facing the issue with multiple servers too such as Jio Mumbai, Geocity, Gigatel (randomly).

Sometimes MNR is full 100% bandwidth, sometimes it's messed up.

According to me, it's a issue of Excitel's backend (not just local area, but whole Delhi).

Possible Causes:

1. Network Congestion because of over-selling. (Happened with Hathway last year)
2. Peering / Routing Issues.
3. VSNL is fucked up.
4. Extreme-IX is fucked up.

I was shocked to see that Excitel to Extreme-IX speedtest is poor too.

All of these friends of mine lives in Delhi-NRC (East, West, Gurgaon).

Over that, @JB700 is using some other ISP but that ISP is somewhat inspired or reselling Excitel's Bandwidth only (maybe JV) and facing the same footprint and behavior as I am.

I have asked @GUNNYJEE to submit the Digital Ocean Test done in Noon so that it can rule out. Since the tests he published didn't include Digital Ocean.

Right now, the routing / connectivity of Excitel is so bad that I was trying to make Zomato Payment using Axis Bank Credit Card (Paytm as Payment Gateway Partner) and SBI Credit Card as (SBI's own Payment Gateway) and none of them were loading.

I had to shift to Airtel and it happened instantly.

@philip marlowe

To back my every claim here, Airtel Broadband is working as fine as it should for every mentioned speedtest node and Digital Ocean. It's surely an issue within the Excitel only. (Airtel doesn't even have peering with anyone)

People with Netflix were complaining the same. (Again, peering is involved)

P.S.: Are we already seeing Jio effect?

PROBLEM NOTICED: 9 May 2019, 1 PM ------- PROBLEM FIXED: NOT YET (Excitel is unaware of this issue)

CAUSE OF PROBLEM: EXCITEL ITSELF (LCO is not the reason of this problem)

I am exactly facing the same issue. I lodged the complaint to lco who couldn't understand the issue. Then I complained about the issue on customer care and they refused to acknowledge the issue. I have been facing the issue for last 3 days, I stream content from UK and US based server but the speeds are pathetic. As mentioned by ajgamer speeds to Chennai and Mumbai and Singapore locations are less than 1 mbps. How can we report the issue?

Same Here, I am facing this issue from 2 days now.

Yes, Speeds to Singapore Servers are 1 Mbps too.

It seems like I'm not alone here who is having this issue. Let's see if someone else posts the results here.

I think the difference is between Extreme IX routes vs TATA/VSNL Routes. I'm not on Excitel but on a local LCO.

But I've found that servers that are peered with Extreme IX get close to full speeds . I get very good speeds on Google Cloud Server Ovpn because there is direct peering.

Servers that aren't peered with Extreme IX such as Airtel , Hathway and Hostdime get very bad speeds

Issue is somehow related to time.

Speed gets normal in the mid-night around 1 AM for almost all the servers. But when it's morning, it goes back to the messed up speeds.

Right now, I am again getting very very slow speeds to the Mumbai Servers (for example).

And, it will get worse with time now until mid-night.

Yes, It's Excitel only issue since everything is loading fine on the Airtel Broadband. (Checked multiple locations including outside of India)

Secondly, my speed test from JioFi to multiple locations (not just India) are fine too.

Excitel is having routing / over-congested / bandwidth / peering issue which they can only fix.

Is there something I can do about it? Since, a lot of Excitel Users on this Forum aren't coming forward. 🙂 Other guy who was on thread @GUNNYJEE messaged me that he's facing ditto same problems as I'm with this meanwhile he lives totally different location of Delhi.

Third, What ISP do you use?

Would be awesome if @achaudhary997 comes forward and share some screenshots since he's good technical guy too.

I have "Precious Netcomm" (LCO: VNet) I had Excitel (LCO: Spectrum) until February but non-peering traffic was so slow , even IPVanish and PIA were slow even though they have servers in Delhi.

So I moved to my current LCO. Its way less congested and I get decent speeds (30-40Mbit) to New York servers and close to 90-95 on peered servers. But they too began overselling bandwidth and now non-peering traffic has slowed to >5 Mbit. Its becoming the same thing as Excitel with slow international speeds. Even VPNs are slow now.
