Need help choosin ISP 4 Voice!

Hey, I need a connection at my house in Pune, mainly for Voice! I have narrowed down on two choices, Exattnet and BSNL! Since the Basic Use is for voice, the data transfer won't matter and i have hence considered the hourly plans of Exattnet (50 hrs for 2 months- 300 Rs + maintainance) as against the 250 per month (400mb) plan of BSNL! Both will serve the purpose at least of expenses! Now My queries,1. Is Exattnet reliable over speed and pricing concerns? The plan has a 96 kbps line! Voice wont need a great bandwith (even 64 kbps will do) but consistency....? Has anyone tried voice over it?2. Will opting for BSNL drain that little 400 mb with a line of 256 kbps too soon?3. Exattnet quotes an installation of 1500 to 2000! Is it so much? Since they dont even have a modem! Its a direct connection to lan card!Overall, which one do you think would go in better?Thank You!Pawan

as per my knowledge one hr of voice cosumes around 30 MB...so in that case, u should go with exatt coz u'll have 50 x 30 = 1500 MB against BSNL's just 400 MB...can't tell much about exatt as i don't know myself 😛

The amount of bandwidth consumed depends on the Voip application that you are using.While microsoft portrait consumes 8 MB/hr (one way) skype can consume upto 56 MB/Hr one way.Taking 5 KBps to be the average consumption, one hr of Voip will cost u abt 18 MB/hr one way or 36 MB/hr when taking into account both downloaded and uploaded data.So on BSNL plan u get 400/36 = 11 Hrs of voice chattingExatt seems to be the better bet coz u get 25 Hrs of Net telephony per month

Since sify also offers hourly i had thought the first time to have a look at the hourly packages.At that time i never knew that if for some reason your local lan went down then you need to call up the Customer Care to log you off otherwise the hours get used up pretty soon, unless there is an auto logoff mechanism.Thats the reason i thought of taking the data transfer or unlimited packages.I hope exattnet doesn't offer such mindblowing features.

hourly schemes are useless other than voice or constant download...coz u hardly get to utilize it fully otherwise...

Exactly! I think the usage varries depending on the network used n the speeds between computers! Now i have 256k here! So if theres 256k there also it mnay end up consuming 50-60 mb per hour which will drain 400mb in no time!All I'm concerned about is the the Speed reliability of Exattnet else it'lll cause the voice to get distorted! Skype is probably more than sufficient for your needs I think.

thanks A lot! I'll be calling up Exatt! And yes I'll be using Skype itself, coz of Skype, Google TAlk n yahoo, thats the clearest with least required bandwidth. I tried It! Thank you all!
