Department of Telecom "checks with" Jio and confirms that they are blocking some parts of Reddit in response to an RTI Enquiry

Heh. Jio indirectly answering an RTI query. I have my doubts on authenicity of this as Jio is a pvt organization not covered under the RTI act. Its simply not obligated to respond to any RTI query. Even if authentic, this was most probably directed to the Dot to find out if it had ordered any blocking.

yes. the rti was filed with dot. and in response they said that they checked with jio about the ban issue.
the thing here is that jio should have no powers here to ban anything on their own. order has to be passed by the courts and instructions need to be issued by the government.
so dot should have complete knowledge of any ban on any web service applicable in india. and here they queried jio and just casually mentioned that yeah jio is doing this thing and pretending that it is an acceptable behavior.

Now I realize that there is indeed a court order for porn ban that would apply here.

Are they really going to ban all sites with any chance of nudity in the future?
