Suggest a good budget Dual band router

Hi all

Please help me in buying a good dual band router (ideally below Rs.3000)

- my old Asus router (RT-N12) has conked off and the in-built WiFi of the Air-Tel VDSL router is not cutting it.

I am looking for stable performance, good range and good interface (my old ASUS RT-N12 had a pretty good interface which got updates at regular intervals and had support for things like guest network)

Quick search on usual sites (flip-kart, Amazon) yeilded these routers

Do not buy D-Link dir 816. It was a pathetic device. It is good as long as you want speeds to be less than 100 Mbps. Simultaneous LAN and internet usage is shit. The total speeds add upto 100 Mbps. So their claim of 750mbps ac speed is bogus since the router can't handle speeds more than 100.
 
Keep in mind that WiFi speeds are theoretical speeds. You will probably never get the speeds they claim to provide.

For instance, I have a Netgear R7000.
Wired connection to it gives me a full speed of 200 MBPS over SpeedTest and wired LAN gives complete 1 gigabit speeds.
Wireless connections give me 150 MBPS to all my devices on SpeedTest and wireless transfers, even though the router claims to be 1300 MBPS and all devices are sitting next to the router.

For actual wireless range you might wanna get a router with a good processor, use www.WikiDevi.com

If you can increase your budget, I would suggest a Netgear R6400. I am using it in my office and am really satisfied with it.

I had been trawling around Amazon today and found this router:


Supports Gigabit Ethernet, dual band and MU-MIMO - seems like good combo

Pulled the trigger and cost was Rs.2699, which I think is very reasonable for what it offers

Will share how it performs after it arrives

update: Had installed this router and no problems to report - connected it to my Airtel VDSL modem (777VR1) and it works well enough.

2.4 GHz range is not an issue throughout my 3 bed house and surrounding outdoor areas. 5 GHz range not a problem as well - but is low in extreme corners of the house - although 5 GHz is overkill now for my 16 Mbps internet.

The user interface is not as slick as my old Asus router, but it is simple to operate and gets the job done - cannot complain.
