Hi,

I need Airtel Broadband in Bhopal for a month only and the Airtel guy quoted me 1599₹ something.

I have never used Airtel BB but I would like to know their charges. I’m thinking it will be Installation Charges of 500 + Security Deposit of the plan. Is there anything I’m missing?

As far as I remember, during my connection installation they asked for ₹500 for the modem but they offered me free of cost installation if I paid for 3 months in advanced to which I agreed so only had to pay for the plan charges for 3 months.

Hi, Ask Airtel for the official charges for the installation.

If I remembered, 2 years back when I got my another Airtel VDSL Connection. I paid nothing for the installation. (Modem was free, wiring was free). I was given Beetel Modem.

I paid 500. As per the official Airtel team, there is no such charge. They only said sorry and asked me about the sales rep who asked the installation charges. I didn't provide his name, because I had some other important issues than going after 500. Also, there is no way to prove it. They refunded it to me on another occasion though.

If you really wish to save 500, contact Airtel via Facebook where you can get in touch with the right team directly.

Be warned... Things may have changed now. I am speaking of my experience from April 2018, exactly one year ago.

This was in 2017.

If I use Airtel fiber broadband only for 3-4 months and then do not pay the bill then the connection will automatically disconnect, Right!
So after disconnecting, do I have to return the free ONT? (free ont in case advance 3 months payment with no security deposit). Or can I take it ?
If I do not return the ONT, then how will Airtel guys takes the ONT back because there is no security deposit of ONT?

@Sushubh @pothi

Airtel CC will keep calling us from multiple numbers if we don't pay. I am not aware of automatic disconnection. Even so, they wouldn't give up on the pending payment. I requested CC to send a service technician to collect the modem-router. No one turned up even after multiple weeks / months.

Considering the current situation when the exports / imports are affected due to global shortage of supply, I don't think Airtel would let us keep the ONU, even after proper disconnection and payment of dues.

@pothi 1. you still have the ont?
2. And when did you disconnected the connection & requested them to collect the ont from your house?
3. Which brand & model number of Airtel ont you had?
4. Did you paid any security deposit for ont during connection ?

1. No ONT. It was VDSL modem-router.
2. On the day of deciding to disconnect. Same day I requested disconnection by calling 121 and asked them to disconnect and collect the modem.
3. I don't remember. Probably, beetel model-router.
4. No security deposit.

@pothi Can Airtel broadband postpaid connection be temporarily disconnected without pay any rental bill for a few months if we have to go out of town for 2-3 months without return the ONT?

While, it can be disconnected, there is a fee associated with it. But, we wouldn't pay the actual rental. It's called "safe custody" fee. I don't remember how much I paid. Please call 121 to get to know the current fee. But, I do know that it was refunded to me when I complained about pesky calls to reactivate my connection just after 2 months into "safe custody".

We can put the connection under safe custody for a maximum of 3 months, then the actual plan would be reactivated. Probably, we can call 121 and reactivate "safe custody" again. Not sure how it goes. The fee is same irrespective of how many days / weeks or months (max of 3) we opt for safe custody.

@pothi Q1. For extend the time period of safe custody to more 3 months, do we have to submit more security deposit or just need a verbal request?

Q2. Can this security deposit adjust in upcoming bill after start using the connection?

Q3. If we need refund, how they transferred to us and how many days it takes ?

Q4. How much was the safe custody fees approximately ?

Q5. In my area, there are Airtel unlimited plans available like 40mbps @ Rs799 and 100mbps @ Rs1099 included gst.
I want to opt Rs799 plan but I want atleast 60mbps speed.
Does this trick works to increase the speed? Suppose after using 1 or 2 months, if I request Airtel customer care to disconnect my connection & giving them reason that I am not satisfied with 40mbps speed as other ISPs like Jio Fiber are giving minimum 100mbps speed. So I need atleast 60mbps speed. Will this trick work? Few guys online was saying that Airtel broadband customer care is flexible and they do negotiate when customer try to permanently disconnect the connection.

1. No idea. Because, I never extended safe custody.
2. No idea. Because, I never paid security deposit.
3. No idea. I didn't have any money with Airtel to get refund. It was me who had to pay the dues after disconnection.
4. I don't remember. I think it was around 250+GST. Please give a call to 121 to know the exact amount.
5. Yes, it is likely to work.

@pothi can you please share the pic of Airtel v-fiber (VDSL2) service's cabinet box or whatever type of outside box on street from where the copper based DSL cable comes out & go to the customers houses?
