got a nice surprise today. A man from D-Link came to my house to upgrade the firmware. He actually got a new modem with the upgraded firmware in it which he exchanged with mine. He had a big list of customers with him so it seems like he would be doing them all. Anybody else had this done? Anyway nice of MTNL and D-Link to arrange this. I guess they might be having too many modems being brought back due to some glitch in the old firmware.

How did u manage that bro. I mean whom did u call. Nice if u cud give me a contact no. Even i need one with the new firmware. Thx

well.. all those upgrading firmware.. can u pls tell us if it adds any extra features.. cause if it dosnt its of no use going thru the trouble!

well, i dont think it added any extra features and my download speed is still the same (about 29 KBps) but like i told you, it was no trouble for me. the guy just came and put in the new router and was finished in 5 min.

ok... then makes no sense upgrading firmware... it usually does cause the company wont cum out wit one unless its useful... but wev read on the forum that there are glitches installin it.. so unless thers nothin major im not upgradin

if u're an user who just uses the modem to connect to the net, then u're fine with the old firmware...but if u want to utilize all the features, then u sure need the updated firmware...

i was going to put that here. yes you are right, the interface is a bit different. as you said, the port forwarding is much easier and they also have pre defined settings for some of the applications. so i guess atleast upgrading the firmware has that advantage.

I think am gonna wait till my router conks out or somethin before i get the new one. Workin great till now, 3 1/2 months...no prob...30-31 kbps downloads. Don't require any more features, forwarded some ports, that's abt it. Haven't found anythin else of use. So yeah, pointless exercise right now.

Just one more thing. I know this has nothin to do with the thread topic but i got this warning abt posting pirated stuff or somethin by Sushubh. I take it he's the admin here. But just to clarify things, i just suggested some stuff for ppl to download, no links/sites or anythin. So wt was the prob coz others were doin the same n they got away with it ??Unless it's somethin personal 😛
