If the problem persists ... delete the file called hbsbeat.exe in that directory (do it anyway)

And when I log out of the client to re-log back in, I get this message "Log-off Failure!! Invalid Session".

After I log back in I get my 6-7 kBps net right back for the next 20 minutes.

I'm having the same problem, just added the ip to my zonealarm. I have already renamed hbsbeat long back. Let's see...

u know, i bet like our own maruti, it wont take them a second thought to increase the speed 5 times at the same prices, coz they have everything but are just milking people while they can. so they wont lose the customers anyways. it happened when they dropped the prices to half just like that.

as for fedora, i am just downloading it to check speeds. coz they had an excuse that the files i must be downloading would be from choked servers. linux is mirrored on so many servers that you won't be getting choked downloads. so if linux is downloaded (from 15 different servers concurrently) at 3KBps, the speed IS 3KBps.

though, i would want something interesting to download as i don't have anything to download. any ideas? or torrent files. 😀

how about windows longhorn beta 😛 how about all episodes of friends.. or survivor.. hey how abt starting a new thread for that

Oh, you guys are having the Log off Failure, Invalid Session problems too for some time huh.I think I have read on this forum itself about auto logouts but I haven't read about any that log outs every 20 minutes  20 minutes is too damn short, I can take auto logouts after 2-3 hrs (though I am not saying it's ok, it just depends on individual net usage)By the way I tried adding the ip address of the sify server to the trusted zone. Didn't work. Next I shut down the firewall too 😛 . Didn't work. Now let me try renaming the hsbeat.exe file.

And I have decided. I won't download sh*t on sify anymore. If they ruined my perfect 6-7 kBps, constant online experience because I went on a downloading spree, I won't touch any downloads while I am on sify. Are you happy now Mr. Sify employee/s who read this forum I am sure 😕

whats left on sify if u cant download stuff. especially on shared packages. 🙁

All that's left to do here is Chatting, Email and Web site browsing

Like Sify says on its website http://www.sifybroadband.com/master_pricelist.html, that the Unlimited Packages (all of which are shared) are for simple text chatting and emailing.

I checked both my download speed and my upload speed on http://myspeed.visualware.com and it showed my upload speed to be 60 kbps while my download speed was shown to be 20 kbps. Earlier I used to get the same values for both.

This hardens my conviction that they are squeezing my download speed deliberately for way over the 24 hrs that they are supposed to when you download too much.

I don't know, maybe they will suppress it for some days till it equals the number of days I enjoyed an unhindered download at 6-7 KBps 😛

so now the ISP tells us what to do with the net connectivity? thats weird. Dialup users are not told to avoid anything. How is Sify better than dialup then?

The way I see it, sify is better than dial-up on 2 counts only. 1) It's very much cheaper than dial-up and 2) it doesn't go below 2-3 kBps , while dial-up doesn't go above 2-3 kBps

Sify probably doesn't wants us to use the internet with absolutely no limits at these relatively cheaper rates. That's why it puts such limits on these low end packages.

That said it's absolutely anti-user, as I have said, the way in which Sify lets you know of these limits. Once you cross them, they throttle your net speeds, and for many customers as per this forum, cut their access altogether, so that you call Customer Care and come to know that such limits exist in the first place.

What they ought to do is firstly make it clear that these and these pre-conditions are there for having internet access for Rs.600 - 800 per month.

Secondly once you cross the limit, they ought to inform you of that and of the action that they are going to take, instead of harr@$$ing the customer quietly, leaving him angry and bewildered.

I want to know what are the limits that my 32 + shared/unlimited (what a paradox) package comes with, in black and white. And I want to know what actions are to be taken once I violate them.

Surely a customer can expect this much. After I get my current mess resolved, I will try asking this through emails. I tried asking it on phone but I couldn't understand a word of what the BPO kids said, both because of their accent and because of my crappy, unclear Reliance phone.

yeah, we can compare reliance to sify on many aspects. cheap, widespread, poor service, false promises, blah blah blah. and yeah bad customer support.

OK, here's what took care of my Log-off Failure, Invalid Session thing. I blocked 2 programs HBSBeat.exe and HBSBEAT.EXE from accessing the internet. Thanks for the pointers Ujjwal and Fred 🙂 Those Customer Support people still haven't got back to me to solve my problem. Would be still suffering it if it weren't for this forum I am sure.

Best to delete them 🙂 that way they wont be called by the application every 3 minutes and slow down your computer.
