Hello everyone, Some of you might remember me when I posted a message "Which Broadband for Mumbai" inquiring about whether to go for BSNL or MTNL etc and as per the suggestions I had settled on MTNL. Guys it is already more than a month now and I have still not received my Connection. No modem even no nothing. I have visited the exchange numerous times and have spoken to everyone from bottom to the DGM. Everyone at the kandivali exchange says, "2 din mein mil jayenga", 1 week ke baad etc. The lower guys say cable fault hai due to flooding 1 month ago in mumbai. What the heck I say. Didn't we read and see on TV the Telephone guys claiming that all connections have been restored???? What are these idiots talking about. What cable fault? Aren't the folks out here from mumbai able to use Triband? Isn't their connection working? What are these idiot talking about?. Now as if that was not enough, these crooks have also 'Dead' my Telephone connection in the name of cable fault just uptil 1 week ago, the telephone line was working fine. Now I cannot even surf using dialup. Is there anyone here who knows anyone powerful etc in MTNL who can help me in restoring my telehpone line and help me procure my Triband connection which I had applied a month ago and have still not received it. I have lost faith in these Babus and are good for nothing. These people claim to provide Triband in 7-15 days. Why the hell it is taking so long? Please help. I am in Mumbai, Borivali area. Thanks and awaiting your replies.

I guess ur just unlucky!!I got my triband dayafter i submitted my form! But to change my plan to NU i had some freakin hard timeTook more than a month to change the shitty plan!

Why dont you give complaint in the MTNL website?Me too 've changed(i guess) the plan to NU. But the mtnl website still displays my old plan(399). On contacting the exchange office, they told tht work-order has been carried out 1 month b4 and no need to worry.

It was a similar situation with me, but I started calling their autorities.....Start off with the triband person in your exchange. Give him 2-3 days. Then call the engineer of your exchange. Give him 2-3 days.....then call the DGM of your are and so on......

@ powerontop: I too had the same problem... but then i finally got my connection... After a flood of useless phone numbers that were given to me by the mtnl helpline .. finally after losing my cool and demanding to speak to their manager they gave me this number- 25671000 and asked me to speak to a Mr. Hunnoli...he seemed to have some position of authority.. and after speaking to him i got my connection the same day.. i say u have a chat with him too...Anyway make sure that u have a new router... cause now after two months of flawless broadband, my router suddenly died. Trying to get a replacement is going to give me grey hair.

Hi Friends, @powdermonkey : If you meant me when "complian via website" then I guess u must have figured out that I have been that route a google times already. Done that Been there ;-) @adwait: The process u described is what I am currently undergoing 🙁 I am currently in contact with DGM, Line/Triband giving person, Line man, Telephone Exchange and anybody and everybody in between. I perform the daily ritual of calling up all of them one by one. No Hopes yet 🙁 @oogamous: Thanks for the number. I will definately call him up too. I hope he is above the DGM or atleast above connection givers and most of all he is still there working. You know good people die fast 🙂. And yes I too am flooded with useless numbers. Can u imaging I am currently having around 10-15 different numbers of different people in MTNL under the Triband contact. Reg. the router, whenever I get one. Is there someway to verify it is a good one. From my experience, you can bet I can't trust them with 1. good things 2. getting replacement in case of failure. Thanks a lot and please do help me if u get anymore ideas.

Its very sad.....but I think that these things aren't new....Remember this is India and "it happens only in India"

the best thing... n i mean it .. is catching the lines-man.. the local guy who does all ur faults... giv him a fifty/hundered & hel be wit the box in no time... no jokes!!

and also dude... since uv not got ur conn... make sure the main mtnl line splits only thru the D-Link splitter provided... not before taht... read other forum threads on this... if it splits before it causes disturbance in other phone lines n also decrease in speed by 5kBps~

dearashwin,
I have done this already 🙂. As I wrote in my opening mail, my telephone line was also killed recently and idiots told me that now they cannot provide triband since telephone connection is not there. Talk about cyclic dependency.
Ok so now what happened, I broke these nuts "Chakravyu" and finally got the root of the problem with my telephone line. I got hold of their internal telephone exchange/testing room nos. and guess what "Somebody in MTNL admits problem is at their end" bring in those Dancers, rejoice. Getting someone in Govt. Dept. to admit it is their fault becoz of which the telephone line has gone Kaput!!.
Ok then on late friday evening, the telephone line got restored and On Saturday I had the local lineman at my doorstep "Sahab, telephone line chal rahihai?". I said yes, but what about my freaking Triband pending since 1.5 months. He told Uska kuch bataya nahi hai but Sir, Triband on these old wires won't work nicely. Naya Wiring karao aacha Speed milenga. (He wanted money inshort).
He told, sir 1.5 mths is too late plz come to meet Mr. xyz on Monday, it shud be done. Ohh yea, now here is my telephone number, Workorder No. and other details. I will come on monday to speak to ur boss abt the delay.
Just to give uall a little background. This lineman was greedy guy just like all linemans so then after insisting I meet them on monday at the exchange. After taking my details he says, Sir Now that I have all ur details, No need to come to Exchange. I will check and bring ur Modem on Monday. I will give u a call before coming. But do the new wiring ha.

Just before writing this reply. I called up at his place to know the progress(Money is just not enough to lure these greedies. Isn't it?). A lady exclaimed 1.5 months. Sir wiring ka fault tha isiliye pending tha. Ab sab kuch thik ho gaya hai. Kal(Tuesday) lineman "Pakka" aayega.

And the saga continues......

Will keep youall posted.

Thanks for listening 🙂

Hi dearashwin,
All Hell has broken loose on me all at once. Currently I have my telephone line in parellel. My outside Hall line is for telephone and my bedroom parellel line(same number) was to be used for parallell telephone line but since the telephone devide was not working long ago, I am only using the bedroom connection for Dialup. Just when after I applied for my Triband in July, my modem seemed to have got annoyed and has started misbehaving and perhaps has conked off. After whcih u all know, thetriband got delayed, telephone line got 'Dead' and whole lotta stuff. Now as decribed in my previous message, my line came back on friday evening, so on saturday morning, I tried dialup and it worked. Ok... Now I disconnected for lunch. In the afternoon. I try to connect it connected. got disconnected. retry..disconnect in 10 sec. tried again. "No Dial Tone". But the outside hall line is working fine. Guess what. My modem has killed my internal line only!!
Now you agree there is more than one thing for me to worry. 🙁

So now coming to your suggesttion. What I am planning is that one main telephone line is coming into my Flat. To that I will attach the Splitter. Then on its two outgoings, One I will connect to my Hall line and one will be connected to my bedroom line(assuming it works or rewiring has to be done).
I hope this is what u meant my Attaching Splitter before anything else. Also since the main telephone line coming into my house is short, I am planning to first put a small telephone wire as an extension and that wire goes into the Splitter Input. The advantage is that Now when ever the copper is broken I never touch the already short mains but only the extension wire.

Any inputs.

Thanks.
