BSNL landlines in my housing colony and entire area have been down since the past week. Believing it to be a cable fault we registered a complaint but that's not made any difference. The strange thing is dialing the home # gives the 'this number does not exist' message which means this isn't a cable issue. Calls cannot be routed to the destination network (BSNL) and this makes me believe the exchange itself has been pulled down.

I am really not sure if this is related to the ongoing VRS scheme and if some disgruntled employees have gone and pulled the plug on lines in the entire neighbourhood.

Either way I am GLAD I moved on from BSNL broadband (a neighbor is complaining big time!) and discontinued the line. I guess it's time for the second one to go too. BSNL sucks bigtime.

Here's the reason why thousands of lines were dead for 1-2 weeks: BSNL Services dead These fellows didn't pay their power bills and as can be expected, the exchanges were shut down!!

This is pathetic! I cannot imagine how this organisation is surviving despite getting support from tax payers money. It is best privatised or shut down with its critical infrastructure spun off into new company, much like tower companies that 'rent' the infra to other telecom providers.

Dang, so far no issues for me in Pune (hadapsar area), but this is worrying.

And here's some more news. The complaint/trouble ticket I had registered was canceled one day later. They wanted me to call up 1500 again. Luckily the lines came back on yesterday.

You guys should read the comments from Toi(let) 💩 readers reacting to this news article. Many saying this has happened across the city, including AWHO in Hadapsar. I believe in some areas the phones have been dead for 6 months! WTF!!

I am really not sure how long our landlines will be operational as they are reputedly running the exchanges on DG sets. And then you know what happens when the diesel runs out. SMH! And the nerve of BSNL to send me a bill for Nov this morning! Bloody p***ks. 😡

Now the question is - have cellular services also been affected? Can someone from Pune confirm?

BSNL is giving very good service on ftth in my town. Even better than private players in terms of downtime and complaint resolving time. But plans are not unlimited.

@jtnrao7 what are the plans?? and where are you from?? i thought you could opt for any plans for fibre that is available through bsnl,or does it depend on the lco??

@razpor same as on official website 777, 849, 1277. I am from Narnaul, Haryana. Yes, You can opt for any mentioned plan on the BSNL website, LCO is just a medium to provide you the connection. He is just investing in laying down fiber to your home for a 50% partnership on your plan bill from the BSNL side. And LCO can't charge any installation fees from you if they ask for any extra money for wiring or anything else just contact SDO of the BSNL exchange.

so what's the plan? remaining people would be overburdened with excessive work and they would leave and it would just make it easier for them to sell assets to jio?
