Spectra 1gbps connection user experience

Update : Internet was down for about 10-12 hours today
But now that its back speeds are slow again new support request open !
i'm seeing 50-100mbps down and 3-20 mbps upload speeds

@varkey what do you have for backup connection now?
i was thinking about going for airtel for a few months as they now have a 3.3TB FUP

I use a JioFi as the backup WAN. Although I only activate a plan as needed, last 1-2 months I wasn't in Bangalore much.

Yeah, I want to try Airtel, but they only have xDSL in my area. Max 40 Mbps. When I checked with them a month back, I was told FTTH would be available around December. 🤞 🤷‍♂️

i'll check too i tired getting jio before but the owner of my place didn't want them to dig neither were my neighbors interested in Jio. but now that its a mess i'd rather avoid it. Hopefully i can get some ISP that doesn't have CG-NAT or somehow allows port-forwarding like spectra

Public IP is nice but i kinda have lost trust on BSNL from long time wither way i'll try to switch multiple ISP's (as secondary connection ) in the next few months

Update: So they called me to confirm if the problem was fixed but did kinda fix it but its still broken as ever
download speed to Bangalore spectra is good but speeds for rest of the world is terrible
testing on their own servers in Delhi,Chennai, Mumbai i get 120 down and 700 upload (i got them to somehow fix upload last time around when there was same issue for months)
except for few servers rest of the international servers get like 30 download and 500-700 upload

but according to them its "latency" even to other servers in Bangalore and only spectra server can be used ! i really cant understand these ISP logic

So started having problems with lftp about 2 months back which uses my full gigabit when transferring files to my server the connection would just drop for minutes whenever i tried to use LFTP

Spectra's team couldn't figure out the issue and i just forgot about it.

now about three days ago had major issues, using the internet if i would go over 5 megabit the connection would immediately drop for few minutes and the ONT would reset (PON showed a red light )

after a million calls spectra's team they finally showed up and tested the fiber, from my home to their splitter box it was -27dbm.
he redid the wiring near the junction box and brought it back to -19 to -21 dbm but the issue persisted
so the problem was ONT so i had to call some other guy they really dont have any internal communication and i pretty much called each and everyone to ask them to visit and fix stuff

finally the technician showed up and this time it was a different guy than usual since the usual guy was on leave today, out of all the people he was the fastest to appear after my call he came just within 90 minutes unlike days others would take.

Once he saw what was happening he immediately recognized what the problem was, it was the power adapter that spectra had provided for the ONT it wasn't functioning right and apparently that wasn't the one their should have provided in the first place (note that i had to get that adapter replaced on day 1 after I got the connection since it broke just in few hours but they provided me with the exact same model which kinda worked fine for like a year)

He gave me the original adapter that the dasan ONT comes with and voila everything works even the LFTP so whenever i used LFTP since it'd max out my connection and the ONT wasn't getting sufficient power it'd drop connection for few minutes 🤦‍♂️

so i had to wait three days to get my connection fixed when the problem was just a faulty adapter

FYI these are my speeds on Airtel Gigabit. I get 700-800+ across a wide range of servers in India, EU, USA, Asia, etc. Downloading from YT through IDM I get around 115 MBps. Speeds are more or less nearly full Gigabit even during testing COVID-19 times. To Airtel’s local servers I’ve seen as high as ~900 D and 940 U on SpeedTest.net. On Fast.com I’ve seen it go as high as 1.5 Gbps download and maybe 1.1+ Gbps upload for brief seconds. This is all during Corona times.
