Hi! I am thinking of giving Excitel another chance since Hathway is having a lot of issues such as high ping, packet loss and sometimes speed goes as low as 5Mbps (Plan is 50 Mbps). After complaining numerous times in past 6-7 months, Nodal isn't able to help me either.

I am mentioning the questions below:

1. I should get Excitel via. Fiber Cable or Ethernet? (Fiber Cable Installation Cost: 4,500Rs and Ethernet Cable Installation Cost is 500Rs)

2. I should get the UBNT Surge Protector or not if I'm going to use Excitel?

3. Are you still facing Packet Loss Issues with Excitel?

Let me know.

@philip marlowe

excitel fiber is supposed to be a free upgrade (with rs. 1000 refundable deposit) so get ethernet.

getting a surge protector is a good idea if you are getting ethernet. do realize that if is not a permanent solution. it would just save you from one surge from what i read. i mean a major one that basically fries it. do read about more about it.

packet loss is not a tech problem here from what i see. some face it. others don't. even @Aakash Malhotra mentioned that it has somehow disappeared on his network in recent days.

Okay, I will get the Ethernet Setup. I'll get the surge protector as well.

I'm still not clear about the Packet Loss thing. Can you explain. Why it happens for some and doesn't for others?

Also, What are the crucial factors involved in the Packet Loss issues with Excitel?

So that I keep that in mind when getting my excitel installed.

Okay. When did the last time did you face the Packet Loss Issue?

Also, Do you get the issue for Counter Strike?

Packet Loss Issue depends upon LCO or What?

i don't really play games.
pings for me is usually quite stable. when it does become an issue, it is usually connected to backend problem that resolves on its own in a few minutes.

CS 1.6 player speaking,
packet loss could be your own pc too.

packet loss is bits of information loss while transferring from one medium to another,
packet loss happens now and then, its normal even the computer running at normal dc current supplied by platinum rated smps Will face slight fluctuations.

now if you use router - your router could be issue too.

if you use direct cable to PC then the chances of packet loss is less.

soooo.... packet loss will be there our hardwares are not perfect, EVEN SERVERS have packet loss while have ECC memory.

1: is fiber available in your area? if yes they might be in testing phase right now. its hit or miss thing. either you will get higher speed and connection more than you opted for just to test the limits.
OR
your fiber will suck ass and you will whine on excitel like a faggot.

2. surge proctector ....... YES ..... but .... if your router is cheaper than surge proctector then let the bloody router fry.

3. yes i face packet loss, although i dont play CS now, as i dont have time and energy like before for it. but while syncing the gradle on android studio....it happens.

i have been using excitel for 2 years now and all these years i always had packet loss of about 2-5%

for the past 1 week , my packet loss is gone. i dont know how . its just gone.

now to your queries -

1) maybe excitel fiber is not officially launched in your area and that is the reason your LCO is charging 4500rs for it. i would say , for now, go with normal ethernet wire setup as excitel fiber is supposed to cost 1000-1500 rs only.

3) on packet loss , as i have said, it is gone for me. regarding why it happens. excitel always says that there is no loss in their network so i think whatever loss consumer gets is due to shitty network equipments and cabling done by local cable operators . most of these LCO's have no idea about packet loss and all they care about is speeds. they use low grade quality modem routers switches, do bad cabling that results in loss .

it all depends on your local cable operator . if he is good then your internet will work without any hiccups .
my lco is pretty good. speeds are always on point and whenever i complaint , he tries to rectify my problem asap.

the only issue that i sometimes have is twitch.tv buffering and bufferings on other video hosting sites like link-removed, mp4upload, streamango etc. twitch was working good for the past 1 week but now since morning it is buffering for me again.

you can maybe try excitel for a month and if you like then keep using it.

imo, excitel has improved a lot over these past years and is improving day by day . there is no other isp i think that offers no FUP plans these days.

future with excitel also looks great.
excitel fiber is coming .with it 300Mbps - 1Gbps plans will come .
they are gonna launch dual stack ipv4-ipv6 solutions that will help with some of the NAT issues.
i just hope they dont get take over by JIO.

and i have cs go but i dont play it much. i mainly play rocket league and dota 2 and i dont get any loss there but i will play cs tonight and report back on packet loss.

@Aakash Malhotra If you don't mind. Can we connect via. Steam or something? I need to ask you something.

1. What do you mean by packet loss in Excitel. Does it happen 24/7 or what?

2. Twitch Buffering happens because there is no servers in India. About any other video site, I am not sure. On Hathway also, twitch buffers. Airtel has best buffering for twitch.

3. Do you want to mention any thing which I should keep in mind while getting Excitel?

1) earlier packet loss for me was constant 2-5% . sometimes jumping to 15-20% but now its fixed. at least for me.

2) thats no excuse and twitch is a hit or miss on excitel , just like packet loss. it works without any bufferings for some people while it buffers for other users. for the past week , twitch was working perfectly for me but last night they did some maintenance and i think they changed something in the backend and that may have screwed twitch for me. other than this i cant think of any other reason as twitch for working fine before this.

I can also confirm that I have faced no packet loss problem from at least past half year or so, I used to get 2-3% packet loss when I got the connection 1.5 yrs ago
But I can't say much about csgo as I don't play online games.

If there is constant 2-5% Packet Loss, it means it's bad for the FPS Games.

It seems like a lot of things depends upon the LCO itself.

i am getting a little bit of packet loss today but then again my internet is also not working properly.
twitch is buffering for me and i am also getting speed issue. my plan is of 75Mbps but i am only getting 20Mbps download where as upload is fine @87Mbps.

they did some maintenance last night . probably something got changed that messed things up for me.
