A few days earlier I got a message from Airtel Customer Care on my very old Airtel Postpaid phone that they are going to upgrade it automatically to 299 per month plan from the current 199. I have very minimal usage of this connection and I have kept it only as it is my oldest number and all my friends and family know this number. Also this number is connected to many of my service providers. Therefore, I cannot surrender this number.

So, I have to either convert it to a Prepaid connection which has Plans with much lesser monthly liability or I have to Port to some other service provider. But I want to have a backup Airtel number as well.

If they change my Plan to Prepaid, they are going to provide me a 4G SIM (are they going to provide a 2G Sim) which I have to use on a 4G phone. I only have one 4G phone with LTE i.e., Redmi 4a in which I have a Jio sim as the first Sim and there is an SD Card which I certainly need. But I can use only the 2nd Sim Slot or the SD Card slot. And I cannot stop using the Jio Sim. And I also do not want to buy a new phone right now.

So, how can I easily and quickly change my Airtel Sim from Postpaid to Prepaid? And how can I keep using the Jio Sim alongwith the SD Card and also use the Airtel Prepaid Sim which most probably would be a 4G Sim. Please advise. Thanks.

You just have to go to their Store along with the port code from 1900 and ask them to switch from post paid to pre paid. It'll be pretty easy.
All Airtel 4g sims are 2g compliant as well.

yeah i am confused as well. 4g sims work fine with 2g and 3g. at least at the moment. airtel is planning to shut down their 3g network. 2g would be gone as well. but that's something that would take a year or two at least.

@ankitaggarwal001 @Sushubh So, are you saying that I would still be able to use the 4G Sim on my old Samsung Duos 2G feature phone? And is it essential for me to create a Port Code if I want to change from Postpaid to Prepaid?

And if I want to use the new Sim on my Redmi 4a alongwith the SD Card and the Jio Sim, how do I do it?

airtel 4g sims would work in featurephones.
i have no idea about moving from postpaid to prepaid works.
if Redmi 4a support dual sim with memory card... you should be able to use the airtel 4g sim in the second slot even if it is only 2g capable.
