my tweet is deleted here so context is missing.
basically... during the recent sale on flipkart and Amazon... mom's honor 9 lite phone pushed deals spam through the freaking SYSTEM UPDATE app.
i have managed to disable notifications from the other honor apps that push ads through notifications. but they are now using the system update app to push ads.
of course, i checked if i can disable notifications from this crucial app. i can't. i can only disable alerts like sound and vibration. but not the notification itself.

what a freak show.

Lol there needs to be a law against this crap and this just more reason not buy products from such companies !

and since honor/Huawei phones cant be rooted/bootloader unlcoked, you cant even install custom roms to get rid of this chinese spyware rom.

atleast xiaomi has bootloader unlock option and allows warranty even for bootloader unlocked phones. Ive stopped recommending honor phones ever since they stopped bootloader unlocking. Will do the same for xiaomi if they ever get rid of bootloader unlocking. tried of this crap

noticed it again earlier today. and took a photo of the notification settings as well. cannot be disabled. not that i have an issue with that. system update notifications should not be disabled in the first place!

dad's phone would probably require a replacement in coming months. would have to decide what to do. lack of small display (5") devices is already a major issue. and then this. it's a shame that you are restricted to a few manufacturers in the budget segment if you want a clean device out of the box.

this is pretty similar to the state of windows machines. preloaded shitware which keeps on showing notifications asking you to pay to upgrade and so on. i have stopped recommending laptops because of this reason. an 80K HP envy machine i recommended to a niece last year had an i7 processor with 8GB RAM and it took more than a minute to boot! i mean i get it... 5400rpm hard drives are a major bottleneck but the shitware on that laptop gave me a headache.

^ main reason why people think ios/macOS is good. I replaced my dads LG g5 with iphone7 and he now thinks ios is better than android 😛 better do the same for your dad. get him an idevice

android apps push wayy too much bullshit ads compared to ios. dads phone notification shade resembled those awful toolbars you used to get in internet explorer. full of bullshit ads.

dad would not let me spend more than 10k on his device so even the cheapest iPhone is just too pricey. plus the size. iphone se is just too small. and rest of the phones are just too large. Nokia 3 seems to be the only phone launched in recent months that has a small display size and it does not even have a fingerprint sensor. would probably end up buying a mid-range nokia for him when time comes.

i am not looking for a phone for dad at the moment. his Redmi 3s prime still doing fine though i am not happy with its performance. would probably need to upgrade next year though. he has not managed to break the display as i had originally feared. but i guess there would be a lot of difference in a 5 inch phone and a near 6 inch phone.

yeah. that's why i mentioned Nokia 3. used the gsmarena phone finder to locate models launched in recent months with 5-5.2" displays. there were around 30-40 devices iirc and nokia 3 was the only one i could relate to. i mean i would buy it over a similarly priced mi phone but by god... put in a freaking fingerprint scanner! the phone mrp is around 10K i think though it is selling for around 7K. so it is not exactly a cheap phone!
