happens all the time 😛 we do not want that do we? 😛my linux sessions can hardly match my uptimes on windows platform.

out of the hatered towards MS

If you want to keep windows running longer , you need to work in a manner that helps this. From intial install, everytime you install apps, you Ghost the OS+Apps partition. Your data lives in its own parition.Install app, test, give it a week or so. Make image. This way if you screw things up you can reverse back in minutes. Have done this for yrs now and windows has been stable as ever. Helps if you don't have a VIA chipset or cheap hardware with dodgy drivers. In which case it isn'w windows at fault. Now that i got that off my chest...Airtel at 128k unlimited is not 128k all the time. It's closer to 100k at top speed as it's PPP over ATM, Therefore you can expect 15-20 GBs/month on the 128k unlimited plan. It's faster at night than during the day.Am quite satisfied with the reliability so far.I would suggest you go with an unlimited package. It makes no sense to screw up your circadian rhythms with this 2-8am crap. You will get sick eventually. Also if you ever get infected with a virus, what will you do when it sends spam outside those times ?

people generally fail to realise the truth.

and what is the truth you are refereing to ?

@blr_p thanx for the info !!

hi thecoolone,i think the calculation is wrong (by gaurav7777 in the previous page), on a bsnl 384kbps connection you can do 1 GB each day during the NU, or about 30 GB per month plus the normal download quota...but i agree if you're comparing bsnl 384kbps with airtel 64k unlimited, then its better to go for the 128kbps, no hassles for the NU scheduling, billing errors/horrors (by bsnl) etc, since you're considering 64k im sure you dont mind the 128k... you can do about 40 GB in a month with the 128k.really, if you're not interested in the higher speeds/costs of bsnl 512k/1mbps then airtel is the better option... (im on bsnl's 512k plan)

oh ya, another thing, bsnl counts the data transfer (upload and download) in the limits ... so those numbers i mentioned you should reduce by about 10% to 20% to take into consideration uploads...so it's very dangerous to run stuff like bittorrent on bsnl which can eat up your quota due to uploads, but no hassles with airtel 🙂so go for the 128k unlimited....if airtel starts a 512k unlimited plan (with a price competetive to bsnl's) then i would jump ship too

MTNL's the best!!! 😀wonder if they're also planning to do something on ID...let's see...

hey thanks vishal raoi just calculated again and yes u r righti had calculated wrong(i wonder what the hell was i calculating)on 384kbps connection u can download 1012.5 Mb during 6 hours from 2 am to 8 am at optimum speed daily

hmm that is an interesting statistic. keeping the computer on 24x7 for too many days is also not recommended (though computers manage to do that for months easily). airtel definitely has a better customer support and quality.

Well its true that comp. can manage to work continuously for 24x7 for many days, but do it only if you have the appropriate cabinate with good heat sink,I dont think so anybody in india seriously think about cabinates and heat sinks.

Moreover If you have a prescott like me ,dont ever think to do it.

skfq60? where do you live man?

If in India? then i don't believe that you haven't faced a single power outtage.🙂

All of you are a bit confused. 24x7 means excluding the occassional power failure & rebooting time. You have to shut down the PC after few months to clean inside the cabinet as I don't live in a air-conditioned room. I keep a side wall of my cabinet always open for better cooling & observing the interior. I have a cyrix (now via) processor which is the coolest one.

I would suggest using a laptop, mine (T21) is already a few yrs old and has been running 24x7 since a few yrs now. Power outages, no probs unless its 2hrs plus, which is thankfully rare in my part of town. BUt it does happen, so laptop goes into standby mode. Now if only i could get to the USP to last that long 😉Transfer to desktop for storage.
