i doubt u can run a webserver on sify due to the same reasons u cant use it a ftp server 😕 dynamic internal IPs. not sure. i have tried both but failed. my friend on touchtel could not access my PC.

No, actually I accessed it from my own computer using the IP I got from www.danasoft.com/vipersig.jpg, the last time I tried that (a long time ago on Sify) I could access it if I typed my LAN ip but not my internet ip.[/b]

As you say the last time you did that was long time back, maybe Sify used to block it back then 🙂.

It would be interesting if you could try to access it now from some machine outside your neighbourhood Sify LAN 😉

But some dude, (i guess Mr Gupta) said that its possible to run a game server ....... ummmmm my opinion is with wat Sushubh faced, not sure wat Mr Gupta was/is talkin abt

well i setup a ftp server gave a friend of mine on touchtel my real ip but he could not access my PC. maybe it was firewall issues.

Nopes, its not firewall (thats my opinion)But i'll expect Mr Gupta to throw some expert comment here (like he did in gamin server n almost mis-guided every1 here 😛 )

well i did access anand's webserver on his PC from my browser yesterday...

hmmmmm, misguided? excuse me? i know atleast 5 other sify users who are able to create gaming servers based on my methods and get ppl play on them.

dude, get the logic naa. it is plain theoretical backed by practical tests 😀

i will go step by step, tell me which one u dont agree with ->

1) each time you get on the internet, you need to have an ip. agreed? at one particular time, you can have only one internet ip. this is NOT your lan ip (in the format 10.x.x.x.). just go to showmyip.com to find your internet ip. and if u dont believe that site, go to google, type 'what is my ip address' and open any site to see it for your self. all the sites will point to the same ip address.

2) in sify u get a unique ip of ur own and not a subnet. if the ip was being shared by a subnet, you would NOT be able to change it by loggin off and loggin on. each time you would log in, you would get the same ip.

allright upto the steps given above, it shud be clear that u get a dynamic ip everytime u log in and that is unique till u log off. if u disagree, tell me where exactly.

3) when u host a gaming server, ppl connect to your ip. in a gaming server, u just need to give the ip address of the server and u can connect to it. to test this, create a gaming server, and do a full fledged server search using 'all seeing eye' or any other server browser. your server would be on top of the list. give ur ip to other ppl and ask them to join.

4) the prob in creating a ftp / web server is that ppl dont directly connect to your ip. they connect to your domain name. so what you need is to use something that wud @$$ign the domain name to ur dynamic ip each time it changes. this service is called dynamic DNS. look up on google if u wish.

i wud be more than happy to resolve all ur doubts. just keep em coming 😉

I agree 100 % with hpgupta because that's how it all really works 🙂 .

It most probably was the firewall because firewalls like ZA by default block all the service ports like those of FTP service, Web service etc. so that hackers don't attack you 😉
