ok guys...i have my FTP server in place...but one thing is nagging me and i couldn't find a solution of that is...how do we give an user access to multiple folders, over different drives/disks???the users can see only the "home" folder/directory and access the stuff inside that...what should i do if i want to let them access to the stuff outside of it as well???i hope i'm clear in asking...do let me know if u don't understand what exactly do i need...all the opnions are most welcome...TIA 🙂
 
make different user accountsand assign them a home directory
 
well thats the way it is u can't access anything thats outside the home directoryso u just have to use multiple accounts and assign them their respective home directories
 
i just put everything i want to share in a single folder 😕
 

hmm...well, let me put it this way...i want so share my music...in one drive...fine, i make one user and give it access...i want to share my movies...in another drive...again, i make one user and give it access...i want to share "those" movies...in the same drive as the other movies folder, but outside that folder...now let's consider a situation...i want to give access to my movies folder and music folder to my friend, normal one, not close enough...how do i do that??? make two users???second situation...i want to give access to all these folders to my buddy...how do i do that??? make three users??? 😱now, i can't put all of them in one folder for sure!!! 😉
 
ok, i think the solution is...rather than making users by the persons name, i make users by the folders' names...like "music" for "music" folder, "movies" for movies folder, and so on...i think that's the only solution...and now i give these IDs to whomever i think can access that folder...thanks guys, i got the solution!!! 😀
 
man there is a solution to all this but its complicated and i wouldn't recommend it i would say u make multiple accounts and just give ur buddies multiple accountsnow do u want that solutionbut consider this its difficult to reverse
 
sure, give me that solution as well...coz i want to access "My Computer" from my FTP 😀
 
its not that u could access my computer its just that u would be able to all ur files in one folder thats it nothing muchand man just forget it leave it as it involves playing with drives
 
well, i never feared palying with anything...and i ain't no novice either 🙄if u have the solution, then u sure can share it...else i'm fine without it as well 😀
