So, I have been using normal broadband service all my life, suddenly I get hathway in my area in sector 16b dwarka , and I opted for 150mbps plan top plan. Paid 1750 for it for 2 months service.

Now, I get internet speed of like 48Mbps on fast.com and may be 50mbps on speedtest for domestic on wifi. If I connect LAN, I get twice the speeds on LAN. My router and laptop both have gbps port.

My router is Genexis Platinum-4410 given by hathway as connect is FTTH, so normal router won't work. My issue is with wifi. My link speed on wifi is 72.2mbps, see here on this screenshot :

with this link speed I get like 48Mbps on fast.com , What I want is, my link speed to be 150mbps (as I know my router supports that link speed) , if somehow I get that , i am sure my wifi internet speeds will get better. I have a router (Netgear) with which I connect my laptop gives me 150mbps link speed.

I researched a bit and found I need to change wireless settings to 802.11n or bandwidth to 40MHz , and change channel, I have tried all of that, but either my internet stops working or my internet works but link speeds remain 72.2mbps. I did research for the router documentation and it supports 150mbps link, but I am not able to get that.

I would really appreciate if someone can help me with this, even if he/she needs my laptop remote access to do it, that's fine.
I am sick of asking this to hathway tech or customer service as they don't know shit , they don't even know what link speeds i am talking about, they just say check on speedtest.net.... link speed is regardless of internet connection, it's just router to laptop link speed I am talking about.

Let me tell you guys, just in case if someone is wondering, if my laptop supports 150mbps link speeds or not, yes it does support as I have another router(not fiber one) - netgear in which I have excitel connection and when I changed the settings to 40MHz , it starts giving 150mbps link speeds

Your question is very confusing.

Basic Information: You don't test speeds on WiFi.

Get an ethernet and test it.

Your laptop and cable must support 1Gbps to have anything more than 100 mbps speed.

On 2.4 Ghz you will not get 150 Mbps as this band has lot of interference unless you have set your channel to 13 which is rare on 40Mhz. Even non overlapping channels or 1,6,11 are bound to have cross talk with neighbors routers. Also another factor which causes issues is your HDD itself as it sometimes acts as a bottleneck to speeds. HDDs For a modern 7200 RPM drive it ranges from about 80-160 MB/s which means if you are using HDD you will never be able to achieve full 150Mbps. You need to have SSD instead of HDD for getting better speeds. Also coming to wifi part you need have dual band (n/ac) router along with supporting 5Ghz pci wifi card on laptop. If your laptop has usb 3.0 then you can get a usb ac band wifi dongle and connect it to usb 3.0 port to get better speeds. As you can see in posted images I am using a usb 3.0 usb dongle and AC router combination. I am connected to 5Ghz band with 867Mbps throughput and I have SSD drive on my laptop

I have done the tests on ethernet, and they are upto my expectations, Sir I knw laptop and cable must support 1gbps to support speeds upto 100mbps.

I am not talking about internet speeds here, I am talking about link speeds! Say like I have 2 laptops and i want to send data from one to another through router without even a internet connection. My actual data speeds will depend on my link speed right to the router from both laptops? Now my link speed is 72.2mbps on hathway router. i need to config that router to give me 150mbps link speed which my laptop and that router support but i am not able to do it even if I change settings.

@madh123 I knw there might be interference issue on 2.4GHz , however I don't have many wifi's in my neighborhood so setting up channel is not a problem. My laptop and my phone doesn't support 5GHz and neither does hathway's router support 5GHz as per my knowledge(i might be wrong on this). My hdd is 5200 rpm but it can easily do 42mb/s on transfers to external hdd with 3.0 usb so in theory my laptop atleast supports 42x8 = 300mbps+ right? so i am asking for 150mbps only as much as ruter supports, so it should nt be a problem I think.

All I am looking for is when i connect it to hathway router, my link speeds on ncpa.cpl wifi status should come atleast 150mbps (doesn't matter if I use it or not) as when i connect my laptop to Netgear (other) router it does come 150mbps but just not with hathway connection.

I am thinking there has to be settings altered to 40MHz or along those lines which I have tried but never get link speeds of more than 72.2mbps.

WiFi on N/B/G can't utilize more than 100mbps whatsoever the case is. That's the reason why AC was introduced.

You need to have AC WiFi in your both laptops to have 1Gbps connectivity.

Read: 802.11ac vs 802.11n WiFi: What's The Difference?

Secondly, Even if you wish to transfer files between two laptops (I'm again not getting your question because of the complexity), but if that's the case? Use Ethernet for much faster speeds.

I am not very sure but 150 Mbps router will only give 72 Mbps unless your device has a good wifi card and supports 2 streams simultaneously, a 300 Mbps router will give 150 Mbps on 1 stream and 300 Mbps on 2 stream, you are getting 150 Mbps link speed with your 2nd router probably because it supports 300 Mbps.
But again as Adidam as said you should invest in an AC router if you want anything greater than 60-70 Mbps on wireless

I've to say that on 2.4 Ghz you will have a very hard time achieving 150 Mbps. It's not just neighbors, many other devices operate in around the same frequency that causes congestion.

If you want to achieve full 150 Mbps, you need to switch to 5 Ghz network with 1 Gbps Port on both router and modem.

1. Connect your Hathway Modem (1Gbps Port) to a Dedicated Router (1 Gbps Port) (5 Ghz band with AC)

2. Make sure your LAPTOP also supports 5 Ghz (has a dedicated Chipset)

3. Only then you can be hopeful of achieving the full of 150 Mbps wirelessly.

Otherwise, it is extremely hard, as you can already see that on 72.2 Mbps link speed (theoretical limit) you're getting 50 Mbps (Actual speed)

1. Connect your Netgear router to your hathway router with Ethernet cable and put it on bridge mode.

2. Then connect your laptop wifi to your netgear router.

(optional you can turn off wifi in your hathway router to decrease wifi interference between both routers.)

Most likely your hathway router doesn't support more than 72 Mbps on wireless which is why your laptop is showing max link speed 72 Mbps. Other hathway users using same router could confirm if they get more than 72Mbps on wifi.

From the below spec sheet, looks like its a very basic router with gigabit ethernet, also the 4410 doesn't even seem to have a SFP port, so you could simply replace that router with a good router with gigabit and wireless AC.

That's not my router. Mine is fibre compatible modem router with 2 antennas. This is my router : Source
, I mean it looks exactly like that and genexis isn't a famous company so exact model no thye may have discontinued or gave a new revision to it/ but my router looks exactly like that.

There are very good suggestions here but none that would work for me. @Smh's suggestion saying to connect my Netgear to hathway's will work but there's no point doing that, as netgear has excitel connection of 100mbps. I keep 2 broadband connection one or the other as a backup. and I have netgear router and hathway's modem router.

@mayank yadav suggestion is brilliant as when 72.2mbps problem happened to my netgear router, 3 months ago, All i did for cange MHz to 40 and change the passcode security to wpa2aes and it gave me 150mbps link speed. but that same i tried with hathway's router, it didn't work.

@cipher90 I don't have many wifi connection near me anyways, and 150mbps is very much achievable in 2.4 i would say as it works fine in netgear router. I am sure all I need to do is to alter some settings on the genexis router and that'd be it. I wish someone do it for me remote or atleast give it a try. I am trying to get in touch with genexixs support, sent them a ticket but I hardly think they will help as i am hathway's customer not their's and hathway doesn't know shit.

@Rehan Kumar I think you might be right here a smy netgear one is 150 and 300mbps 2 stream router so it is able to give me 150mbps link speed. but this genexis router/modem there isn't much documentation available for it online really. The one I found that I have linked above, i am not sure if that's my router/modem, as it looks exactly the same however i am skeptical if that is the exact model number i have. I think mine is not 300 but I have no way of confirming that.

@Adidam I don't want to transfer files, that was just an example. Why I want 150mbps is , when it is 72.2 mbps , my internet speeds reach about 48mbps, so I am guessing when link speeds goes to 150mbps, it will be atlast near about 80-90mbps as my plan with hathway is of 150mbps anyways. Also, my netgear router is this one : https://www.amazon.in/Netgear-WNR614-Wi-Fi-Router-White/dp/B00M0ODVM8 and I am sure it's not AC router right, still it gives me 150mbps link speeds.

^ Perhaps its just a limitation of the device itself and you may not be able to achieve it over wireless with that device. I have a D-Link 825ACG1 router and over the 2.4 Ghz wireless N, I get about 80 Mbps or so and over 5 Ghz wireless AC about 250 Mbps plus.

Other options you can try are, changing the wireless channels, see if you can make it different from your Netgear device and choose one which works best for you. (as you said you keep both devices online as backup)

Also on your Netgear WNR614 device, what is the actual speed you get, I mean if you do a speedtest?

Further, if higher link speeds are possible with Netgear Router and not with the Hathway's. Then I suggest, you buy Another netgear router and follow the instructions to bridge it with your Hathway Modem.
