Well I have noticed that after a long internet session, I get disconnected ... this must be because I keep getting a certain ping echo request to verify if im online ... now these are blocked by my firewall ... and the good old zone alarm makes my pc appear invisible on the network. I already configured it to set the ip I found in the ini file in the Sify directory as safe, but it seems these pings come from different ips on the network ... how do i identify which are the sify ones and which might be unsafe? 🤔

well i get logged out even if i am not running a firewall after a long period of time. so i believe you get logged out anyways... i did sent a mail to customer care asking for all the IPs they wanted me to not block. but @$$uming they land up on the desks of people who pick up the call center calls, i believe they did not get what i wanted to ask.

Well that's sad ... but maybe the local cable operator would more helpful 😕I'm trying this ... looking at the ZA log file and configuring all sending PING echo requests as safe ... if my comp gets hacked ... its ok as I have nothing really important ... and i'm always up for a reformat 😉

ur local operator know what a firewall is? mine does not know what linux is.

Hmm only one guy over there seems to know anything but that's better than nothing ... I guess when one opts for sify, all one can do is cross one's fingers and pray 🙁

I had the same problem and found a solution. Go to the directory where the broadband client is installed and open the file BBand.ini there under [HBS] you should see a server IP, note that down. Now open Zonealarm and go to the firewall section (the options on the right) click on the Zones tab (on the upper right). Under that there should be an add option, click on it select IP address and type the server IP you got from the ini file there and any description (Zonealarm requires it) make sure you add it to the trusted zone and select ok. Now if you want to stay online the security level must be set to at least medium, high wont work.Hope this helps.

Hey I had seen that ini file before ... but it hadnt worked completely(see my first post) ... hmm medium you say? But medium security would nullify ZA's stealth feature ... anyway will use it if nothing else works. Thanks ...

By mistake I clicked "Remember the Settings" in zone Alarm while conneting with broadband client. How can i change the settings. In Program controls, i failed to find any info 🙁Any Helps

This is because of thart Heartbeat feature which they have implemented using the client, apparently to help people who have shutdown their PC without logging off

I had a similar problem with disconnects and called their call center, the lady there did something (must have put my id on some exclusion list) and after that I never had this problem with disconnection

Maybe you should try calling them & tell them that you dont want this heartbeat feature (& also that your heart beats fine even otherwise)

Funny thing about Zonealarm, if it is not shut down properly it does not save the settings. Anyway if it has saved the command to allow the client (which I think it should anyway since the client and hbs are separate programs) It will be saved in 'Program control --> Programs'

guru, yes, the sify client must be listed in the Program Control>Programs list. Just look for BBClient.exe. Then left click on the check marks alongside the listing and choose the "Ask" option from the pop-up menu that comes up. Do this for either or both of the Trusted and Internet zones, as per your liking.
