Interesting quotes from various ppl..

Look at Brazil's rates

300kbps with 10Gb limit for about R$ 60, US$ 20-ish
600kbps with 15Gb limit for about R$ 100, US$ 30-ish
1Mbps with 20Gb limit for about R$ 170, US$ 60-ish

If you think its bad here, read what it's like in S.Africa.

You know ..

let's be realistic and compare with other developing countries and see where we stand

instead of bitching about how nice it is in tiny developed countries eh !!!

hey buddythts way better than indiai mean comeon 600 kbos with 15 gb limit pretty goodand in india toh wiht tht speed u get only 500 mb

blr_p what about per-capita-income?brazilians earn about 2.5 times what we do (but i aint no damn economist)that means their 1mbps plan ( us $ 20-ish ) is about "Rs 1500-ish" per month, or less?compare that with bsnl's 1mbps home 3300 plan... double the download limit and half the price...

I'm more interested in data limits "600kbps with 15Gb limit for about R$ 100, US$ 30-ish""1Mbps with 20Gb limit for about R$ 170, US$ 60-ish"with airtel's 128 unlimited plan, i'm getting 15-20GB/month, heh much more than the 6-7Gb/month i was used to. it might be similar with Hathway's 256k unlmited, heh yeah not exactly 256, but if you can get as much data not bad.both are under Rs.1000 or < US$ 20-ishHopefully these set the standard for the rest.If your a gamer and need the speed and low latencies, i might agree things need to get better. Oh and the video conf thing but how many use that. What else ?The sweet spot for me is 20Gb/month @ 128kbs for under Rs.1000/month. If it gets cheaper great, but i look at that as a minimum.

yep, me too more interested in data limits - i posted the following in the bsnl forum - I dont mind paying say 30% higher prices than the current for this (lke rs 2500 for a 512k plan with 25 gb limit):I have a Home 1800 - 512kbps plan. If I start using the NU plan to the fullest, I can download about 30 to 35 GB in a month plus my usual 5 GB quota....Why don't the people at BSNL realise this and just give us a decent monthly quota like 25 GB for the 512k plan, 50 GB for the 1 mbps, 10GB for the 384k and say 5GB for 256k (Rs700) plan, so I dont have to stay awake till 2am and wake up again before 8am? boohoo :-(

"...so I dont have to stay awake till 2am and wake up again before 8am? boohoo :-( "Heh , this is their way of setting limits. I guess Airtel is not availble where you are. sucks 🙁

they're just trying to make sure that many ppl don't download at that time!!! 😀what can be done and the best solution to this is an alarm clock...it'll be a bit of disturbance to ur sleep, but then u won't have to wait half the night

Airtel is available but 128kbps or256kbps is not broadband for me... I need 1 mbps unlimited (or decent limits) before I call it broadband

I was used to doing that on a 32k line ie Browse+ftp, if you use a hosts list and ignore graphics.I meant what applications does this guy use that would need such a high bw rate. Sure its nice, things arive in seconds as opposed to minutes & hours. But seems high price to pay just for that.

look at his member title...he's mentioned it there!!!The Village Idiot :lol:just kidding!!! 😉

yea, its sarcasm for me being stuck amongst village idiots 🙂1mbps is the bare minimum for decent broadband experience... for example, installing linux over ftp, takes almost the whole day on my 512kbps, on 1 mbps should be bearable.just think, download the opensuse.org 5 CD ISOs... 3.5 GB will take you 3 days on a 128k connection... but half a day on a 1mbpslife will be better with 1 mbps 🙂

well, like money, broadband is also never too much...the more u get u want to get more than that... 🙂

err yeah.but how often are you gonna download a distro. certainly not every week ?Even if you were how many distros do u want to try out.1 month with 128k will get u 15-20GBs, thats what at least 20+CDs worth. It will take u a lot longer than thatn hat to figure them out completely+testing etc anyways.
