The DHCP server on my ADSL line assigns me an IP address with only a one hr lease. My computer is unable to renew that lease for some reason therefore every minute I get a short 5-10 second disconnection period while I get assigned a new IP address This is annoying while surfing the Internet because it will give me temporary "page can not be displayed" error and stops any downloads that are in progress. I tried increasing Lease Time 3600 sec (1 hr) but every time I restart it sets back to 3600 sec. Pls help

whenever u do any changes, make sure first u "Apply" on the same page, then go to "Tools/System" and then "Save & Reboot" (for old firmware, it's "Tools/Misc" and then "Save & Reboot")...this is mandatory to save any changes...else it will get back to the state it was in, after restart...

If I am not mistaken, aren't the DHCP settings for the modem, meant for the router itself? I mean, the DHCP in question here, is the router itself which dynamically assigns PRIVATE IPs to all the devices connected. During the whole day, as far as I know the IP doesn't change.

There is a very simple way around the dhcp problem

simply put a static ip on ya lan card

192.168.1.x

gateway 192.168.1.1

Dns : 203.94.227.70

203.192.204.5

Issue resolved

HiI am a newcomer to networking. Could u guys please tell me how can we change the lease period if you are a DHCP client?

you can't change the dhcp lease period. That is defined server side. Simply put a static ip as defined in the thread above.
