Tata Sky (current named) by NEWS CORP was trying to launch DTH service in India from 10 years under name SPACE
TV, but it was opposed by then Indian govt. Later again applied by name ISKYB (like BSKYB in UK), but rejected. In 2005-06, when ZEE-ESSEL & DD brought plans for DTH, then NEWS CORP again applied but this time by forming JV with
TATA's with 80:20 shares (TATA's 80%), with brand name T-Sky.
But finally when service was launched it was named TATASKY based on both partners TATA & SKY.
SKY is operating TV broadcasting in countries like UK, Italy, NZ with SKY name.
But 'SKY' name does not mean we must have SKY channels, because SKY channels doesn't have downlink license in India. And they are not bothered because they are operating under name "Satellite Television Asia Region" (STAR) in Asia & India. And all their contents from SKY (& FOX, etc) are telecasted in India via STAR
Thank you man,
Now that is informative.just wanted to clarify any connection b/w
