http://www.quillem.com/broadband/hathway-internet gives some more info about the hidden/secret hotwire plans. the only real 'knowledge addition' this page provides the discounts available for longer term committments (6months to 1yr).

interestingly, while hathway's website shows lightway-basic-regular as 256k, 125mb, and extra usage @ rs. 1.5/mb, they are running scrollers on the local cable tv (movie) channel of extra usage @ rs. 0.90/mb, no installation, and no deposit (i think.) "monsoon bonanza" is the term.

makes me wonder
1) how those tariff plans are arrived at, other than arbitrariness / marketing whim
2) to shift or not to shift, to their freeway plans...

I must say that hathway is becoming to become one of the top isps in india. Gosh I hope they come to my area soon. So far, I've only heard good reviews about airtel. Now hathway seems to be up there 😉.

while hathway might not have the cto model (not sure about this), the only way i could get anything done from them was going to their office - and whenever i did this, it was inadvertently raining - and put foot to ass. once (the first encounter) the boss to tell his marketing underling, "i don't care if you have to spend your new year's eve at this gentleman's house. you had promised installation in a week, and now it's more than a fortnight."

the reason for my continuing scepticism... their 'generous' 300mb monthly allocation (which i was on, a long time ago) was a sham. things might have changed now, but a year ago, they launched a 512k/200mb/month plan. (it was justified in terms of "high speeds, to access relevant content"). only the eruption of MAJOR hoo-haa caused that inanity to be scrapped.

i hope they're getting better, but the continued presence/influence of such thought processes within their management/marketing is unnerving (but that can be said about *any* 'broadband' company.) another interesting fact: hathway's monopoly on cable-tv-thru-set-top-boxes in madras, and the circumstances in which that was effected. in other words, the old "kutte ki dum" situation...

I don think any other of their other plans are really good! All plans except Freeway appear expensive! Freeway has *really* no download limits! So it makes it worth! 999 per month + modem rent! If u take 6 month or 1 yr, effectively costs 830 a month!

Ok pawanrh, you mind putting in a word to hathway for me. Tell them I need them to come to my area fast and take away the competition from sify. 😛

🙂 Dont Worry if you have Hathway Cable operating in your area! They'll definitely come soon! But if not, well ... it could be sometime b4 they come! Coz They didnt have internet cables in my area! They actually dragged one single length of Co-Ax cable for nothin less than 100 metres, only for me! Not bad huh?
