Reliance JioFiber: Port Forwarding NOT SUPPORTED

The JioFiber router web interface presents option for port forwarding however it does not work in practice.
The page accepts and saves all the configuration changes you do. Yet you won't be able to connect to the port from outside.

The router also has a DMZ and UPnP options and those do not work either.
Customer care is unable to help ("We have no information about this at the moment")

The IP address as seen from outside is different than what the router shows as its WAN IP. So the router is not directly exposed to the internet. It is behind a NAT/Firewall.

The IP the router sees is 100.XX.XX.XX
IP as seen by sites like whatismyip.com is 49.XX.XX.XX

As far as I know 100.XX.XX.XX is a public IP but trying to access that IP from outside does not work either. So the router is sitting behind a firewall.

This is a major limitation if you want to run any kind of server. So developers and gamers beware.
If you want to make your DVR internet accessible, you can't.

With JioFi (dongle) you could use internet accessible IPv6 address to eliminate need of port forwarding but the Jio Fiber router only allocates local IPv6 addresses. Even if IPv6 worked like JioFi, it would not solve problem for IPv4 connections. So there is no alternative at the moment. You can use a VPN, but it slows you down and has other limitations.

I was planning to discontinue my old ISP but due to this limitation, I might have to discontinue JioFiber instead.

has anyone been able to enable Upnp and allow for incoming connections on jio gigafiber. i had been using airtel and although they too have cgnat enabled, i didn't want to go for the static ip route and then port forwarding (seemed an unecessary payment). i just enabled upnp which was enough for torrent seeding.

Now when i am doing the same with jio, although my torrent client says upnp added and my udp is opened (though it doesn't matter), i am always getting a blocked by firewall/router error on the tcp. and i have already checked its definitely not my system firewall. i have checked the modem settings and enabled upnp here as well but it doesn't seem to work.

any help would appreciated

I believe enabling uPnP should solve the issue.

There is an option for port forwarding Security»Firewall»Port Forwarding .

However, I'm not quite sure how to configure..

Xbox Live requires the following ports to be open:
  • Port 88 (UDP)
  • Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
  • Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
  • Port 80 (TCP)

Could someone please direct me on how the settings need to be done for opening the aforementioned UDP/TCP ports. Esp. the part of source and destination IP.

Guys don’t beat around the bush. On Jio, there is NO possibility of accessing your own home server or use Remote Desktop protocol by port forwarding
Reasons:
1. Jio does not allow port forwarding on their router
2. Double NAT or CG NAT
3. Bridge mode on their ONT is not allowed

You can search the whole internet to get around the Double NAT problem and you will fail.... and fail hard.

So Jio internet is for kiddies and for general public unkill types. For advanced users, Jio Gigafiber is a BIG NO-NO.
Now if Jio is giving out static IP for reasonable fee in future, the situation holds some hope. But I would not vouch for it.

I myself am totally happy with MTNL FTTH which is still allotting Dynamic IP and I can use my Asus router’s free DDNS service with Lets Encrypt https certificate.

Jio can go to hell.

on mobile ipv6 ports are open so why don't they do the same with fibre

jio is planning for IOT devices home security and stuff so may they will introduce port forwarding later.

Does any JioFiber user still use DC++, and if so, have you successfully managed to enable Active mode? No matter what I do it looks like I'm stuck in Passive mode, and I wonder if it is because of the problems mentioned in this thread? Can any networking expert help me out please?

JioFiber does allow port forward but the way it happens is through allocation of static IPs.

Source: I got Port forwarded for my CCTV Setup by raising a request. I had to share the IP address and ports on which CCTV was listening and JioFiber team sent a technician with static IP and port numbers.

Wow, I thought that was impossible! Which plan are you on currently? Also:

1. Did they charge extra for the static IP?
2. Did you have to explain a lot and go through many request levels before you got a static IP? How long did the whole process take?
3. Did the 'technician' confirm whether you're using the static IP for your CCTV only? (Also, when was this? Wondering if they're making house visits nowadays...)

Hey Brother, Can you let us know the process?

At time of installation of STB, when the engineer came, I asked for this. He called Customer Care / Technical team wherein fed in details of CCTV make, local lan IP, mac id etc. Post that it took few attempts wherein he came and said, all done from backend but my CCTV didn't work from outside. Finally, one fine day he came, called Mumbai team and put them on speaker, told that I am the IT person and finally they shared IP address

First octet is 49

Mine was Gold Plan when STB was installed. Nothing charged to me that time.
Yes - while they accepted the request, it took some 3-4 attempts to get this IP address issued. As always they closed SR saying port opened and upon calling asked me to get my IT person for configuration. When I said, I am IT person, they said they can talk to me.
