Govt notifies simplified income tax return form, e-filing to start from Saturday

At the time of filing the form, the taxpayer has to fill in PAN, Aadhaar number, personal information and information on taxes paid. TDS will be auto-filled in the form.

Post July 1, as per amendments to the Finance Bill 2017 as passed by the Lok Sabha, it would become mandatory for an assessee to provide the Aadhaar number or the number showing that he has applied for Aadhaar in the ITR.

I would check with the CA uncle who files my return if the fuckers have made the field mandatory right away. If not I would try to file as soon as possible.

How can you submit return before year end? Year has still not ended!
its for FY-2015-16 which includes transaction for that period.

you may verify via otp if your number is updated on incometax website
I have already done that, my question was, do I need to send them any prints out manually ??

Download ITR-2 (java based) and check if it shows * (star) next to Aadhar card field!

If star is present - then its compulsory already!! 😛
of course its mandatory in their website.
I have no issues submitting it, I have no income which could hide, and I don't have issues if they want to cross check who I am using my aadhar number.

are you sure aadhaar field is mandatory on the website? because it is not supposed to be till june end.
also if you verify using aadhaar, i think there is no manual document submission is required through post.

the point about aadhaar is not hidden income. it is about the supreme court ruling and how the government is ignoring it. aadhaar should not be mandatory for income tax return filing right now.

once otp verification is done . then your work is over . you will get confirmation in 20-25 days on your register email .

You shud receive acknowledgement which clearly mentions if to send OR not.

For verified returns it shows in RED "DO NOT SEND THIS TO IT DEPARTMENT" (something like that)

Looks like a lot of money is collected because of round offs.

SC takes cue of excess IT collection; suggests disability fund - India Legal

The Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice JS Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud is handling an interesting case of extra money collected by the Income Tax Department and what to do with it.

The case is about rounding off the amounts collected. For example, if the amount is Rs 120.20, instead of going by the simple decimal logic of marking it as Rs 120, the department logs the tax collected as Rs 121.

Flipkart: Income Tax department asks Flipkart to reclassify discounts as capital expenditure - The Economic Times

this is a pretty big deal i think.

If that happens, companies such as Flipkart and Amazon that incur substantial marketing costs could be deemed as being profitable and therefore liable to pay 30% tax. Flipkart didn't respond to an email sent on Thursday. A senior executive at the company, however, confirmed the development and added it's looking to challenge the order at the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) in the next few days.
For instance, a company incurs Rs 100 crore in marketing costs. If classified as revenue expenditure, this will be deducted in one financial year. If classified as capital expenditure and amortisation of 10% is applied over 10 years, then only Rs 10 crore will be deducted in a financial year. In the second scenario, the company will end up making a profit and have to pay 30% annually.
Experts said the revenue department's stand will hit startups and ecommerce companies and that it appears to dictate how entrepreneurs must conduct their businesses. "The tax department is obviously picking on the companies' oft-repeated claim that the discounts are aimed at accruing market share for future profitability, but it's highly unlikely that such reasoning will stand scrutiny in courts," said Abraham C Mathews, a Supreme Court advocate. "Supreme Court rulings have held that even if the benefit is of enduring nature, it can be classified as revenue expense."
