Definately. And I would be the 1st to take help of you :Boy Phone: 😀

are you saying that they stop pursuing people who refuse to pay taxes? this is not a loan recovery process. this is tax recovery process. 😕

Thats if u assume that the defaulter will always pay all dues, with interest.

But thats too much to assume. Coz most of the times they spend money in paper work & time in recovering taxes from them. In the end, they too lose the interest that cud have been earned.

I am just telling that its a task full of hassles to recover tax dues, till the last penny. That involves cost. And that cost, at times exceeds the interest they can recover on the taxes.

its the government man... its a government sponsored operation. there are no losses in recovering the last penny. because everything goes back into the same pocket. and i do not think anyone can escape not paying the tax. unless of course they disappear. i do not think IT department would make a settlement in case you are not able to pay the tax you own. you go to jail for tax evasion.

Thats all on paper. But are wud be good no. of people who are liable to file returns, but still dont file. Now it wud be impractical to catch the neck of each & every person who hasnt filed a return & check why he hasnt filed.By this kind of smses, may be they can scare the recipient. The recipient wud think that the Govt is aware of him, and may be he wud file a return & pay his dues honestly.Arre forget filing returns, there are people who earn & still dont even have PAN, & to make the compliance with PAN stricter they are constantly amending the provisions of the Act.

well... to tell you the truth, you can probably get away with not filing a return. but you would probably be caught one day. if you can avoid living without a bank account, you can probably live with not filing a tax return. the new ID card is one of the many ways they are going to make everyone accountable.

Yeah so that wud happen in near future......until then, they wud be using these kind of gimmicks to scare people & make them file returns/pay taxes!!

if you are caught, you are going to get scrutinized and that would mean you would made accountable for your entire past. and the final figure would include interest and penalties.

U dont get caught easily........i dont remember any provision by which any no. of years' assessment can be done, especially when u arent filing returns. U/s 142(1), they can summon a maximum of 3 years' accounts and all........
