FASTag

So, took a trip of about 250 KM in Western UP. It was a nightmare to cross any toll with Fastag. On each and every toll, there was a queue of atleast 200m and on one of the tolls it was over 500m.

Since fastag is linked with the vehicle registration number, why don't they just start charging tools by reading number plate with high speed camera's? Have bunch of enforcement vehicles to penalise anyone with fastag not attached with the registration number and send out challans to people who have not cleared their fastag negative balance.
 
Why was there a queue? I thought Fastag doesn't take more than a second to complete the process.
 
Fastag not working for someone, balance low, tag blacklisted, sheer traffic, transaction time per vehicle, etc.
 
No offense but even these means would be completely broken, the fastag machine was supposed to seamless and quick solution when it was first introduced, but instead, you'd see literal people manually scratching the glass of the car to scan. Making it pretty useless, I doubt looking at the technical literacy of India, the method of number plates would work any better.
 
Fastag will stay, but only use will be link between your chassis with your bank account.
Number plate reading is much more reliable and it does not need a car to slow down.

I guess he is talking about Mumbai-Pune Expressway which was best road at the time when it was built decades ago. But people were mad to pay toll every time when they entered road.
 
I got chull for a sudden weekend trip to Jaipur 8th October and I regret that immediately after Dharuhera. 40% of NH8 is worst than local roads. Also I tried to recharge the SBI fastag before toll and was surprised to know that I can't recharge it because of no full kyc. The tag was 3 years old and I never had any problem, moreover, the guy who sells fastag on tolls was not there because of rain and had to pay double the amount. On next toll purchased a new tag for 500 and got 150 balance and 250 security deposit. On the third toll the tag was not working, they tried to scan witth the hand tag scanner also, so they collect the toll using the vehicle number.
Today I surrender both tags and the procedure for closure is very tedious. Ordered Paytm tag online, which will be delivered tomorrow.
Final thought, don't purchase SBi tag.
